They don’t need to require them to be called taxes

I said that I agree with the [Supreme Court']s dissent, and the dissent made it very clear that they felt [the individual mandate] was unconstitutional. But the dissent lost. It's in the minority. And now the Supreme Court has spoken. There's no way around that. You can try and say you wished they would have decided in a different way, but they didn't. They concluded it was a tax. That's what it is.

And from later in the interview:

Actually the chief justice in his opinion made it very clear that at the state level, states have the power to put in place mandates. They don’t need to require them to be called taxes in order for them to be constitutional. And as a result, Massachusetts’ mandate was a mandate, was a penalty, was described that way by the legislature and by me, and so it stays as it was.

Quoting this guy is going to be almost as much fun as quoting Palin.

I think Erin's obsessed with Romney ... which got me to thinking ...

Remember in '08 when there was that woman who put videos out about being "crazy for Obama," you know, Obama Girl? I think Erin should be Romney Girl. I can see it now .... Erin, going viral, while singing ...

"I'm just mad about Romney ... Romney's mad about me .."

Yeah, that's it.

P.S. Erin's new theme song, sung to the tune of "Mellow Yellow" by Donovan:

"I'm just mad about Romney ... Romney's mad about me ... you could say it's my obsession, to make him choose between Ann or me ... they call me Romney Girl (quite RIGHTly) ... they call me Romney Girl (quite RIGHTly)...."

Partisan redistricting has created the modern Teapublican Party. (formerly known as the Republican party) Every chance they get to redraw districts, they move them farther to the right. When they run they have to please the far right nut jobs, which leaves us with a more and more radical, far Right Wing Party. Just Google the Ohio districts and look at John BOehNER's district, and you will see what I mean.

By the way, I was for the individual mandate back in 1993, when it was a Republican ideal.

It's not about who is running, it's about values. Personally, I don't believe Socialism has ever worked anywhere. Just my opinion, though. I do study history. If anyone believes that either candidate is best for our country, they're smoking crack. But, we do have to choose. If you believe Obama is best for you, vote for him. If you believe Romney is best for you, vote for him. But for the love of whatever, stop slamming how people choose. If we loose the right to choose, we've lost everything.

I'll tell you what I believe: The government has no right to tell me, or force me, to buy anything.

Erin O'Brien said...

The government has no right to tell me, or force me, to buy anything.

The GOV forces us to buy things all the time. I didn't much like buying that farcical war in Iraq.

Now then, do you oppose the GOV telling you who you may marry?

And thank you for your gracious permission to let me vote for whom I choose.

Yabu said...

Miss Erin, I wasn't trying to be rude. I believe what I believe. I wasn't talking about wars, I wasn't talking about who or whom I can or cannot marry...I was talking about the freedom to choose. Are you a Socialist? Yes or no. It is a binary question. On or off. Do you believe that Socialism is a better form of government than a Constitutional Republic? Just curious. I would love to read your thoughts on this.

Romney is a clown because his party has told him he has to bad mouth a health care reform he pioneered and he complies.

Hey Bill, there are plenty of reasons to call Mr Romney a clown.

Mitt Romney is a clown because he leads a circus, the GOP.

The GOP wants to roll back women's reproductive rights back even further than Roe v Wade, questioning the right to use hormonal birth control.

The GOP wants the Book of Genesis taught alongside Darwin in science classes.

The GOP thinks that despite the fact that 97% of qualified climate scientists believe human activity is causing harmful change to the environment, the bleating of the die-hard 3% means the science is 'unsettled'.

The GOP thinks the Ryan budget, which kills Medicare, is a good idea.

The GOP thinks that the Ryan budget, which doesn't balance the DEFICIT (not the debt, the deficit) until 2040 is a good idea.

The GOP thinks the Ryan budget, which doesn't balance the deficit until 2040 despite killing Medicare because it not only makes the Bush tax cuts to the rich permanent but gives the rich further massive unwarranted tax breaks, is a good idea.

The GOP thought that playing chicken with the debt limit last summer was a good idea.

The GOP thinks that voter ID laws which skew heavily against the poor, minorities, students, and the elderly, are a good idea.

The GOP thinks that voter ID laws, which address only voter-impersonation fraud (the rarest variety of an incredibly rare violation-many times more UFO sightings in a year than voter-impersonation arrests)are a necessary thing.

Call Mitt the ringmaster or a fucking clown, but it's a shitshow of a circus he's leading. Since January 20, 2009 they have behaved as partisan insurrectionists totally uninterested in governing, preferring rather to obstruct, deflect and prevaricate, totally unworthy of governing.

Got it?

"Romney would more accurately be called a whore. He will say and/or do whatever it takes for his side to win."

Actually, they're all whores. They all do whatever it takes to win, to include Obama.

"Mitt Romney is a clown because he leads a circus, the GOP."

Factually inaccurate. Romney is neither a clown (not according to the definition I looked up) nor the Chairman of the GOP. And the GOP isn't a circus, according to the definition I looked up. It's a political party. One may choose to look at it as possessing the same qualities as a circus (much as I do the Obama Administration), but in a strict sense it doesn't make it one.

"The GOP thinks that voter ID laws which skew heavily against the poor, minorities, students, and the elderly, are a good idea."

Here's an idea to fix that: Have mobile id teams go to poor areas, areas where there is a large minority presence (African American, Latino, you name it), schools, and senior centers/retirement homes and issue IDs on the spot with proper identification or proof of citizenship (birth certificate, military ID, state issued ID, etc.). Hell, go door to door if need be and do the same thing. That way the argument that they're being disenfranchised is moot. If we did that, would anyone reasonably argue that we're disenfranchising anyone? Thoughts?

I appreciate your comments Yabu and while I'm not worried about a civil war just yet, I agree that we ought to come to terms.

I can tell you one thing: I'd be able to stomach the Right a lot more if they'd get their filthy hands off my uterus.

I also think a lot of the divisiveness we're seeing is generational. Whenever I interact with younger people--and I do it a lot for my professional writing--they just want to make this country rock.

For now, what RJ says about the "money party" is true--to an extent. After all, why are the Koch brothers spending millions to oust Obama?

Bill said...

If RJ had a lot of money he could campaign to get all of the money out of politics. Oh. Wait a minute. "Yo soy un hombre sincero De donde crece la palma". There must be a utopia somewhere. Sigh.

I'll tell you what Miss Erin, the people do need to come to terms. That is a fact. I have no interest in your uterus. After all, it is yours. None of my business. Any decision regarding it, is yours. I have no problem with that. None whatsoever. Your body is yours, and I believe you can do with it what you like. I believe that with all my heart. I swear to the Maker I do.

I also think a lot of the divisiveness we're seeing is generational and educational. Our education system is broken. We need to fix the teachers before we can fix the students. Just what I believe. I would like to see the country rock, but until the young folks are educated, it won't happen. It doesn't matter which side they choose, but they do need to understand the choices they make. Like I said, it's not about right or left, but it is about right or wrong, from a spiritual view. I'm not to judge, though. I am who I am, and I believe what I believe.

You know, you get many people around here who want to beat the shit out of people like me. Tell 'em to bring it on….I'm a good person, but I will stand my ground. No matter.

There will always be two sides to everything. That's what makes the world spin. Heck, if we weren't spinning, it would be boring.

You know what Erin, we could probably enjoy a good meal, have a game of chess, and shake hands when we go our separate ways. No big deal. I'm not radical, but if you get into trouble, I would do the best I can to save your ass. It is in my genes.

@Anonymous

I misspelled "write" intentionally. I'm surprised you didn't call me out.

Fox News? Sarah Palin? What in the hell are you talking about? Go twist another one, and chill out.

Far Out Man.

Maybe it should be on the table.

P.S. This just in: Erin renames her blog "Romney Girl" and goes on Fox News to promote it ... plans world tour featuring non-stop online coverage, as the Goat drives her around in the "Romney Girl Express" tour bus ....

P.S.S. Geez, I crack myself up sometimes.

How is it that our language is derived from Saxon but we have no umlauts?

I think if we had umlauts we'd be less likely to have a civil war.

Just wondering.

@Yabu..Sarah Palin? "Mamma Grizzly"? Where have you been since August 2008?

Meanwhile, after a gun fetish rant, you tell ME to chill out?

And of course no response to my tutorial on what socialism really looks like in this country, as opposed to the right-wing fantasy of Chairman Mao lighting Stalin's cigar with twigs kept burning by copies of the Constitution.

You can lead a horse to facts, but you can't make it think.

@ RJ-good point about the language-I had an English teacher in junior high who wasted my time except for pointing out the fact that English is a Germanic language that pedants like himself insisted on trying to teach as if it were latinate.

Oh, I get it , I got it. I wouldn't let you mow my grass. That was not a rant about guns, it was the truth. The truth will set you free, or save your ass...depends on how you interpret it. You anti-gun people will just roll over. Pitiful.

Just a question, yes or no answer. You and I are in the Pacific Northwest. I have a gun, you don't. A big grizzly bear charges you. Would you want me to save your life, or not? Tell the truth. Would you rather be killed, of let me save your life? That's an honest question.

Yabu, there are a couple of other options for your scenario. But, let's not go there.

Yabu said...

@Bill

And what might those other options be?

@Jobu: you're just the tool for the job.

@Bill: You and Sabu cuddle up, based on problem solving skills demonstrated so far, you complement
each other in a very kind, gentle and loving way. You deserve each other.

I'm actually tired of this pissing contest. Think I'll wait for the next blog post from Erin. Yabu, the initialed ones are very much into insulting people and then changing the subject to something they just googled and became "expert" on. It's fun for a while though.

You people are whacked out...perverts...I'm done with this thread. Have a good night.

"Whacked out perverts..."

Wow...you and Bill really WILL get along...'swimmingly'...

@Yabu-

So far you've labeled critics of Mormons "racists" and critics of Gun Violence "perverts."

If you're gonna come over here and stir shit at least get your character flaws squared away.

@ RJ-Jobu's gun violence fantasies with his 'buddy' saving his family and himself protecting the world from hungry grizzly bears reminds me of Ralphie in "A Christmas Story" fantasizing about saving the homestead from Black Bart...ahh, at least Bill has someone to play with...
