Right-to-lifers are nothing without choice

First off, to Bristol Palin: hang tough kid and you'll do just fine. Don't take any shit. I'm rooting for you, I really am. So are a bunch of other blue blue liberals just like me. Believe it or not, it's the truth. Godspeed.

But to the right-to-lifers surrounding her, I say this: what is the operative word in your supportive statements? How will you hold anyone holy when taking the hard road is no longer elective? Case in point from CNN:

"Sarah and her husband, Todd Palin, issued a statement saying they are 'proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents.'"

"Tony Perkins, president of the influential conservative Family Research Council, on Monday issued a statement supporting the Palin family. 'Fortunately, Bristol is following her mother and father's example of choosing life in the midst of a difficult situation.'"

She is also very fortunate to have parents who can financially afford to help her through this whole baby birthing process.

I know a lot of young people elect NOT to get married right away, because as young, singles, they can stay on their parents insurance and then grandma and grandpa can pick up the bill for their new grandkid.

I wonder which will come first, the baby or the wedding?

And speaking of marriage, I guess it's still inconceivable (pardon the pun) for the Christian Right to accept gay marriages, because well-adjusted gay people would ruin the foundation of marriage, but these kids are going to make it?

I am sooooooooooo confused. So Sarah Palin is preaching abstinence for whom, exactly?

The thing is, Bristol probably didn't really have a choice. Sure, abortion may have been available, but I'm sure that word would've quickly traveled to her family, what with her being the governor's daughter in a small state that is mostly rural. Everyone knows everyone.

But I get what you're saying.

Perhaps she should've taken your commenter's advice from two posts below and have kept "her legs shut."
AGain, how's that workin' out for all of us parents with daughters? Yea.
