Don't know the legal, official pronunciation, but however yer supposed to say it, I like to pronounce it "MEE-MEE" cuz the person who's writing is writing all about "ME..."
I've always thought it was pronouced "mem" (rhymes with "men"). For some reason, I keep thinking this is actually a French word, but I seem to have lost my French to English dictionary at the moment.
"Meme" may indeed be short for memetic, but per the Wikipedia definition?, I don't think most blog "memes" quite rate as "cultural information . . . that propagates from one mind to another". Information? Yes. Cultural? Uh, mebbe.
So officially, it's pronounced "meem". Bummer. Cuz I'd like to call it a "meme" the way you first said it on yer YouTube bit, as it's about yo' "self", and "même" means "self" in French.

While it is a shortened form of the word memetic (meh-meh-tic) it is usually pronounced Meeeeeeeeeeem.
How anyone can be adorable while talking about Massengill is beyond me, but you pull it off.
It's "meem", BTW.

Since it was Richard Dwakins who coined it in the selfish gene, basing it on the greek word mimeme. I've always pronounced it as rhyming with gene.
