Six six six

The toasty Toast inspired this post.

Six wierd books:

Flatland by Edwin Abbot. A land where circles are king and all the chicks are straight.

The Thief of Always by Clive Barker. A tale meant to frighten the daylights out of ten-year-old boys, but one that kept this housewife up until 4 a.m. finishing it.

Stand On It by Stroker Ace. Cars, chicks in GoGo boots and a backwards race.

Maldoror by the Comte de Lautreamont. Good luck figuring this effing thing out.

Geek Love by Katherine Dunn. Where freak love is king, Carnies rule and one chick wears a leather bra "356 days a year."

Thank You for Being Concerned and Sensitive by Jim Henry. Weird genius at its best: Walking corpses, cheating congressmen and an ode to the "sport fuck."

I am so uncultured...wasn't Stroker Ace a race car driver portrayed by Burt Reynolds?

In fact, the movie was based on the book. And if "Stand On It" is culture baby, I'm effing Emily Bronte.

From the moment I first heard that Burt Reynolds was going to star in a movie called Stroker Ace, I started laughing, and I continue to laugh at that title to this day.

The fact that someone out there actually used that name as a pen name cracks me up even more.

Also, I'm too lazy and apathetic to research it, but if it turns out that "Stroker Ace," is the actual legal name of the author, and not just a literary pseudonym, I may just laugh myself to death.

Is Stoker Ace the only one that has a movie? I don't have time to read so much right now...

um -what about the other nine days of the year?

Hal: An excerpt from Stroker Ace:

"Lugs and Shirley were over in the other bed: Lugs face up, naked, sound asleep, still holding a can of beer locked in one hand and a cigar stub in the other. Shirley was all curled upon her side, naked except for the knee-high white vinyl boots with real high heels. Shirley hardly ever takes off her vinyl boots. I suppose I ought to ask her about that some time."

My Dearly Beloved referred the book to me.

Toby: Don't worry, darling, your weenie will work fine.

Anita: Geek Love is a stunning and fantastical book. I shall look for Perfume.

nadina: I know the author of Thank You for Being Concerned and Sensitive. He is a great guy and it is a great book. It will not disappoint you.

Flamingo: Dam you!

Vince: Sorry, baby, I think it's just you and Burt Reynolds.

exposed: I must admit I felt a little uneasy when she bent down to tie the lace of my shoe. Do that the other nine days.

she lit a burner on the stove and offered me a pipe. i thought you'd never say hello she said you look like the silent type. and then she opened up a book of poems and handed it to me, written by an italian poet from the thirteenth century. every one of those words rang true lit up like burning coals pouring off of every page like it was written on my soul from me to you.

Cool list, I read Geek Love but none of the others but the stack I have already, all edging to the edge of my bedside bookshelf poised to be read. If Josh's house was a company and OSHA visited they would shut me down!I have so many books stacked in the "to read" pile that I need to read more just to save my life, these books are about to crush me! The clock is ticking and its ticking real loud!

That video: The last time a female voice gave me chills was at an Opera. You got skills!!!

Okay, I got my snow balls, beef sticks, popcorn and sodas. And I’m going to order a Pizza.

But this is just a regular snack I have at 6pm (California time) when I take a little break. So I’ll pop in the Party and share a little for a change. I’ll be at work, but I’m very good at multi-tasking…
