Shouldn't everyone have that chance?

That was 22 years ago.

There's just one problem. Marriage is defined as "The formal union of a man and a woman, typically recognized by law, by which they become husband and wife." Why not just pick another word for the formal union of same sex partners and give them the same benefits. We could call it Pairiage. What do you all think?

Four of the five dictionaries in which I ran "marriage" recognized same-sex marriage as well. I couldn't get on the fifth one because it's a paywall site.

I am SHOCKED, shocked I tell you, that somebody on the Innerwebtoobz would blithely assert something as a fact when it is at best a half-truth.

The biggest threat to traditional marriage is straight people.

My wife and I had first marriages wrecked by straight people.

Damn breeders!

Jim, you are hilarious. And speaking of divorce, I'm not sure where you got your quote, Bill, but isn't there supposed to be something about "until death do us part?"

Plenty of you righties sure don't mind ignoring that portion of the proceedings.

There is that, Erin. Don't worry though. Same sex couples will also gain the right to divorce. I don't know. Doesn't the thought of two old guys falling asleep on the couch, instead of just one, take some of the glow off of the whole idea? And, who's going to yell at them to take out the garbage?

Sorry Bill. The law does not change due to narrow definitions of behavior. "But officer I'm not drunk I only had 2 drinks. Tipsy yes, drunk no."

GAH! I really, really, REALLY wish people who cite the Bible as all thing authoritative would actually, you know, like, um, READ the blighted thing.

Marriage is an issue of CONTRACT, not spirit. Even in the Bible.

And, for the record, the Church performed same-sex marriage ceremonies at *least* through the 12th century, sanctifying through contract the relationship and commitment of male couples as well as male-female couples. I have seen no particular evidence of marriages of female couples, but on the face of it, that does not mean they didn't happen--the record is always blurry where women are concerned, and certainly if they were sanctifying dudes, they prolly did the same for chicks...I mean, that's just HAWT, am I right??

Thankfully, the definition of marriage has evolved over time. Through different times in history, women were allowed to be raped by their husbands and had no property rights, yes, here in the US. UNTIL 1993 in some states. WHAT THE FUCK?

The tide has turned for the narrow-minded, homophobic, bigoted horde.

Their hot air will be relegated to their small homes which house their small-mindedness. History will not speak kindly of such ideas.

Yes, just like miscegenation.

Same-sex marriage will win. Soon. All 50 states.

And, yes, Bill, same-sex couples would like the right to divorce. What the fuck? Can you not figure out the simplest definition of EQUAL? It's annoying.

Unfortunately, they share their small minds in their small houses with their small children. And I have long avowed that to raise one's child to be a bigot in a society that ostensibly stands up to intolerance is at least negligent and certainly could prove abusive. As the lyric to one show tune goes, "You have to be taught how to hate...before you a six or seven or eight"--so, parents, stop fucking DOING that.

Just sitting here in my small house straining my small brain creating hot air while contemplating the word,'equal'. Thinking about auditioning for the SF Gay Men's Chorus.

I only know one same sex married couple. Mitchell and Alberto (not the real names) have been welcome guests in my small house on several occasions. Great guys. Professionals, funny, very interesting. I was recently informed that they are divorcing and are in a bitter dispute over custody of their beloved Yorkshire Terrier. The biggest threat to their marriage wasn't straight people(re: evil's comment). I believe it was another gay guy.
