The high life

A passive home in Cleveland's University Circle neighborhood.

Inanimate objects possess a specific point of view. We form relationships with our things. The more intimately we interact with them, the more we imbue them with our character. Cars and shoes and even money start to look like the people who possess them. Houses are prominent characters in our lives.

Hence, I'm not sure what I expected when I first set out to write about Cleveland's passive homes, which are all about unprecedented energy efficiency. Perhaps I thought the homes would be more concerned about conserving energy than taking care of the people inside. Maybe the houses would be stingy and full of themselves. Instead what I found were incredible living spaces that filled me with breathy sighs at every turn.

Enough already. Judge for yourself.

When I look at houses they should reflect who live in them... either by choice in landscape, color use, minimalist vs....
Unfortunately where I live, its suburbia... Cookie cutter homes where HOA rules are enforced- yep Nazism... then again that's how Cali suburbia rolls... Don't get me wrong, I do like where I live- crime is low, education is better than L.A.'s.
I am glad there are cities like Santa Barbara, Pasadena and others where are unique.. takes the suburbia lacking a little easier.
