My wife and I distributed a bunch of cookies to the poll workers here in Brooklyn.

It felt really good to see their appreciation for being recognized and acknowledged for their civic-mindedness.

Yes indeed!.. where else can one have the freedom to read, say, write what one wants??

O'brien, for all her warts and faults, it's still a big beautiful country y'all have got there.

Relax, righties. It'll all work out ok in the end.

Erin O'Brien said...

You are right, Dean and for the record, there are a few righties and conservatives out there who are wishing Obama and the country good luck.

Ohio--Have I told you lately that I love you? Well, I do. And you make lovin' fun.

Quite possibly the best version of that song ever done. RIP, Ray. You are missed.

There are righties and conservatives, maybe, wishing him good luck in some things but I don't know any conservative who wants him to complete his agenda. They are rooting for the country but not the President. We're still dealing with reality here and I'm not sure he'll be able to continue blaming Bush. What he inherited, this time, he inherited from himself. We're in big trouble folks.

Mrs. C said...

Bill, it's always so black and white isn't it? Let's make sure those distinctions are really clear by drawing nice, dark lines around them: We face a serious fiscal scenario. There is a decade--a DECADE!--of war to be paid for that was never budgeted. That's the biggest source of our current and burgeoning debt. And we, the citizens of this fine country, inherited that from Bush, not from Obama. And the last four years? You wanna talk about stuff that "he" didn't get done? You don't remember the pledge of the Republican House to block each and every foray across the aisle? Yeah, Obama did that. You don't remember that ridiculous and traitorous pledge signed by every Tea Party Rethuglican and too many fine Republicans to refuse to entertain the idea of taxing---aka, funding the business of government? Sure, Obama did that. There is yammer about dropping the bullshit; if there is sincerity embedded within the yammer, we stand a chance to begin the hard work that ALL of our elected officials are sent to do. It will take cooperation.

Bill said...

Mrs. C, With all due respect, continuing to blame Bush is not going to convince any conservative to cooperate with the President. We are a divided country and the half that won needs the resources of the half that lost. You know that old thing about what happens when you run out of other people's money. Do you realize that the election results might have been different if there were only 35 million people on food stamps rather than 49 million? President Obama has divided the nation into groups and promised to give stuff away in exchange for votes. It worked.

Erin O'Brien said...

the half that won needs the resources of the half that lost

I see you're regurgitating the new party line of the Right that Mittens defined with his now-infamous speech about the more-or-less lazy and essentially indigent 47 percent. I heard Bill O'Reilly and Limbaugh spew the same tripe.

It is wrong; it is insulting; and it will continue to take the right further and further down the swirling toilet bowl it's already drowning in.

Bill said...

Half of us do not want the country we love to be "fundamentally transformed". The half that won, includes many of the richest people on earh. The half that lost includes many hard working poor who long for a better life. It's an attitude about how much govenment you want in your life. This was a razor thin win by the left. Accepting a loss doesn't mean rooting for your opponent. Wrong? Insulting? Hardly.

Erin O'Brien said...

AHA! The meaningless "small gov" battle cry. And "razor thin?" Sure, Bill. Sure.

Bill said...

When a huge concern of 49% of the country is meaningless to the party in power. A recipe for failure.

Erin O'Brien said...

Spittin' out the bait here, boss.

Erin-

Some cult members will never allow themselves to be de-programmed.

The "half" he's referring to will be what we call "a third" in 10 years. Texas will be in play in 2016 and will be reliably blue in 2020.

Meanwhile, the vapid talking points will be viewed as quaint and no longer dangerous.

Has anybody seen PHINEtz PREE-bus?

The Cons SHOULD ABSOLUTELY continue their attacks on the left. Fewer people voted for Romney/Ryan than McCain/Palin. IT'S WORKING!

You left out the part about fewer people voting for Obama in 2012 than in 2008.

To Randall, Michael and All of my Fellow Liberals, please join me in solemnly denouncing this shameful site for it basks in the terrible pain of our fellow Americans and should not be used as a gloatation device under any circumstances. No--no no no--that would be bad.

"You left out the part about fewer people voting for Obama in 2012 than in 2008."-Bill

I left it out because it had absolutely no relevance to the point I was making. Reading Comprehension for the win.

Please run for some sort of public office soon "Bill"(or whoever you are since you're a sackless coward who refuses to publish it) I swear I'll move to your district and make it my sole reason for living to assasinate your character.

Mah fellow 'Merkuns, let the record reflect that when I went to the polls, I cast my vote deliberately and very specifically to null Bill's.

Erin-

I'm a little P-Oed. Obama hasn't been by yet to install that new furnace he promised in exchange for my vote. And the concrete guys he sent over are now telling me they can't get to my driveway until spring. What the hell use is it trading my vote for "stuff" if the service is going to be like this?

PS-My neighbors DID get their Omaha Steaks, so I'll give him credit for that one...

Hey EO'B-
For some reason blogger won't let me expand the screen on comments so I can read the link. Can you type out or e-mail the bad, no good, up-chucky link of gloating so I know how to get it...err...I mean, avoid it...MR

Bain Capital's next big investment opportunity is a restaurant chain called, in honor of their best known alumnus, "Col. Pander's Kentucky Fried Crow".

They already have Karl Rove and Dick Morris on tap for their first infomercial, in which they will demonstrate the ins and outs of the crow consumption experience to potential franchisees.

HEY, RJ!

I just reviewed some of the posts in this thread. Your 'reading comprehension' comment is spot-fucking-on, and certainly not in the one post only...

Say, Erin,
Your husband shaves, doesn't he? Is his razor thinner than 3 million popular votes (and counting) and a convincing win in the electoral college? I sure hope so.
thanks,
Your Pal Mike

Hey, Erin!?

You ocassionally have ocassion to shave some of your...um...parts, don't you? Is your razor thinner than having to defend twice as many Senate seats yet still picking up Senate seats?
I certainly hope so!

thanks,
Your Pal Mike

Say, Erin, speaking of 'razor-thin wins', the election results show that Mr Romney could have won Ohio, Virginia, AND Florida, and still have lost the election. ONE more 'battleground' state would have put him over the top then, but which one? He lost Pennsylvania by 5 points. colorado? 5. New Hampshire? 6. Iowa? 6. Nevada? 7. Wisconsin? 7.

That's a pretty thick razor...
