Oh beautiful day

"The United States is the only advanced country that doesn't required paid leave. If anything, the United States is in the dark ages when it comes to maternity leave."
Surely this is the voice of some rabid leftie feminist! Surely this dangerous socialist rant comes from the likes of Rachel Maddow, Stephanie Miller or (gasp!) Gloria Steinem.

Uh-oh. 'Fraid not, righties. That would be Fox New's conservative darling Megyn Kelly.

Confidential to conservatives: before you go ranting on about entitlements and workers rights and big gov, make sure your nose is clean--immaculate even. Because championing the benefits of said entities that only apply to you will get you slapped with the hypocrite label pretty damn fast.

Who cares? I just love it when righties go leftie. Yay!

So welcome, Megyn, to the land of liberalism. I wish you luck on your fight for maternity rights. After all, with a name like Me GYN, it was written in the stars.

For a more complete (and I daresay entertaining) diatribe, behold Jon Stewart as he properly exposes this silly little broad for what she is:

Life is not black and wite. There are some liberals who hold to some conservative positions. Some conservatives are more liberal than others. There are conservatives who have no issues with abortion or gay rights, for instance.

We all have ideas on the role of Government. Hard core libertarians are against the Federal Highway system, for instance. If I like the idea of interstates, does that make me a hypocrite?

Unless one is a complete anarchist, we all agree there is a need for some level of Government, it is a question of degree.

Clearly maternity leave is way more important to a woman or couples starting a family than it is to me, an old fart with kids pretty much grown.

To make my long-winded (as usual) point, I am not sure one inconsistancy really makes one a total hypocrite.

Big Mark 243 said...

... but the problem is with this inconsistency, as demonstrated by Mr. Stewart in this clip and reiterated by Mr. Carlin, is that when things don't apply to you, it is okay to be against something. The moment it does, then up goes the hands and the wailing about the 'unfairness' of it all and how 'there out to be a law' begins.

Anywho, it does seem that the Faux network cultivates and 'grows' blondes for its entertainment programming (just cause they claim its 'news' doesn't make it so). Wonder what they use to fertilize the soil and if it is available for sale..?

*ooh... my WV is 'banzi'!

Erin O'Brien said...

I'm not sure either, Joe, but things get awful cagey when you only champion the entitlements/programs/regulations from which you are benefiting.

Erin-this is exact clip from Stewart that I mentioned in one of my diatribes last week or earlier.
Never underestimate the power of motivated reasoning. Another current example: the extension of the payroll tax cut, currently opposed by Republicans in congress. WAIT!!! WHAT??!! Republicans AGAINST a tax cut? Heaven forfend!! Dogs and cats lying down together!!! But the problem with this tax cut is who is FOR it-the President.
@Joe-if you view the clip, Ms. Kelly has railed against similar programs or policies over and over and over again-yeah, she's a hypocrite.

@ Big Mark-I understand Rupert Murdoch has a plantation in Australia where he raises the blondes.

Why do men dig skinny blond chicks? That shit drives me crazy, especially when they're conservative skinny blond chicks.

GRRR!

Erin O'Brien said...

And Joe, please tell me "wite" was a typo and not some neo-conservative spelling of the word that has something to do with differentiating it from "white."

Erin O'Brien said...

Mike, I can't help it, here are your previous musing on today's Stewart clip:

"Anyone who missed Jon Stewart's takedown of new-mother-anchor Megyn Kelly re: HYPOCRISY-I know, shocking-over maternal leave, juxtaposed with her past foaming-at-her-artificially-shaped-mouth over the abuses of entitlements...watch it. I spit up a chunk of my pancreas."

Re: your pancreas, I know what you mean. You can borrow mine iffin' your still in a bad way. 'Fraid I can't recommend my liver, though. You understand, dontcha?

Thanks Erin-I think that conversation began with light bulbs.
As for the blondes, I can't speak for anyone else, but give me a short chubby brunette with a nice round bottom any time.

I'm a conservate and don't give a crap what Megan thinks. She's a talking head milf. Raise your hand if you haven't been guilty of hypocrisy. If an empoyer wants to pay a woman to stay home and take care of the kid, as many do, they can. Nice benefit.

Erin O'Brien said...

William,

I am completely perfect in all ways and I have magnificent breasts.

Bill said...

E: There are very few of us, perfect people, remaining. We should all intermary and have lots of perfect kids. OK, we WOULD need paid maternity leave.

Joe said...

"wite" is a typo.

And I don't get the skinny blond thing either.

Thank God there is no media bias on MSNBC/CBS/NBC/ABC/CNN like there is on Fox. that knowledge makes me sleep better at night.

I adore Mr. Stewart, completely love this blog and am enamored with the comments section.

Bill-I am REASONABLY sure no one here would claim to never have been guilty of hypocrisy.
I am ABSOLUTELY certain, however, that no one here has ever been PAID for it, to be hypocritical on a daily basis for a paycheck.

I, too, think Leibowitz is hilarious. What's more hilarious is how many people get their news from his fake news program.

Joe, I believe you - but those people don't vote that way.

And I had no idea Jon Stewart could do that kind of a perfect Joe Pesci imitation.

I also think Marion Morrison did a helluva acting job in The Searchers, and Leslie Townes was very funny in The Road to Morocco.

Yeah. The Leibowitz thing wasn't so clever.

OK, long day down in the mines: I, too, am a perfect person who - alas - lacks magnificent breasts a la EOB. The men who love skinny blond chicks (conservative, liberal, or otherwise) miss out on such as you and me, you know.

@ the Goat: Nyuk, nyuk . .

Bill said...

Men who love skinny blonde chicks also love fat blonde chicks, skinny brunettes, fat red heads, etc. Men love whatever chick pays attention to them. Another humble opinion.

rraine said...

thank you, bill. i'm skinny by nature, blonde by choice, anarchist by decision. and i'm hotter than a 2 dollar pistol. so bite me. please.
quit the damn stereotyping. it does not become you.

Erin O'Brien said...

I surely wasn't taking a shot at all skinny blonde chicks, rraine, and I apologize if it came off that way.

I just never understood how people can have a physical "type." It just does not compute to me. Physical attributes fade very very quickly for me if the individual behind them doesn't measure up.

Stewart articulated my point better in the vid when he takes a shot at the Fox viewers with his riff on the look-alikes Fox had stand in for Kelly during her absence. How idiotic is that? I know, guys, we'll just find someone who looks just like Kelly, plop her in front of the camera, and no one will be the wiser!

The method/concept apparently worked with (ahem) a certain retired Army guy.

Or maybe I'm just jealous because I'm a short pudgy brunette.

help.

Bill said...

rranine: thanks for defending men but i'm right. One example: our ex Gov., Arnold. An anarchist?..... hmmm.

rraine said...

bill-i wasn't clear. i think you are right! and i should have said pacifist anarchist.

erin-no harm, no foul. i don't get "types" either. for me, it's the contents, not the wrapping.

Bill said...

rraine: Thanks! I noticed that Erin knew exactly what you meant but I missed it. Not unusual. I think you're the first pacifist anarchist woman with whom I've communicated.

Al The Retired Army Guy said...

@ Erin: Fox (and most other media outlets) aren't stupid. They know that putting a good looking dude or dudette on TV is going to attract viewers who otherwise wouldn't tune in if someone less attractive was doing the commentary. This is especially applicable to women. I know this isn't necessarily fair, but it is the way it is. I mean, how do you explain Wilma Smith being on TV all these years? She is/was (I don't really know anymore as I don't live in Cleveland) an attractive woman, and I'm sure that has had something to do with it, at least with her longevity. Denise Dufala (whom I went to both high school and college with, BTW), I suspect, falls into this same rubric. Remember John Hambrick? As I recall, back in the day women went nuts for the guy.

As for the women on Fox, there is no denying that Megyn Kelly, Martha MacCallum, Margaret Hoover, Liz Wiehl, etc. are very attractive women. Just about every other female Fox anchor/commentator is attractive as well. CNN has some very good looking women anchors/commentators too. Again, I don't think this is by accident.

Take a look at this site http://www.gogomag.com/talkingheads/index.php. I did a google search for Fox News female anchors/commentators, and this came up. I looked through the photos of CNN, ABC, Fox News and NBC/MSNBC female anchors/commentators. In my book, Fox News has the most attractive female personnel. Then again, my opinion, of course, is subjective. You be the judge.

Al

P.S. I don't watch Fox News for the chicks only. I look at that aspect as a bonus. And yes, I tune in to CNN, MSNBC (mainly for comic relief), etc. too. As Sun Tzu said, "so it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss. If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose. If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself."

Erin O'Brien said...

"You be the judge."

Okay.

Someone once said that men are like big dogs that talk--a statement wholly supported by your comment, Al. Wait--maybe not:

"I don't watch Fox News for the chicks only."

Now that you said that, it's completely different!

Gimme Jeanne Moos any day of the week.

@ Mike: I really didn't know her all that well in high school, so I can't comment on that moniker. I ran into her at Ohio State when we were both taking a History class (History 400, to be exact). As I recall, she wasn't doing too well in that particular class, and once came over to my apartment so I could help her out with it (I was a history major, and no, nothing else happened). Also, when we were in high school we'd put on these concerts at the junior high school, and one year she was one of the singers. It's been a very long time, so I can't remember whether she was good or not.
