Twenty seven cents of every federal tax dollar goes to fund the military.
Sarah Palin's move to follow the money and bright lights isn't paying off politically.
Think we don't have a robust single payer health care system in the United States? More than one quarter of Americans have government sponsored health care.
Guess that's enough for now. Anyway, I have important marital aid research to conduct.
Love,
Erin

Check, check, check, check. I agree with you on all four points!
Dug the links.
A catty side note: Anytime Sarah Palin comes up I start hearing, "We are stupid and contagious, Here we are now, entertain us."
Ms Amanda: Really? When you use the word stupid do you really mean "disagrees with me"? Because, I wonder how many people who think she's stupid are actually smarter than her. She's done quite well for herself and her family. Can't be too stupid.
That's the stupidest thing I ever heard. Doing well for yourself and your family has very little connection to intelligence. Actually one of the characteristics that annoys many the most about Palin, myself included, is her glorification of buffoonery.
Aaron Sorkin(Who I have NO DOUBT is smarter than Palin) verbalized my favorite description of her to date: "A witless bully."
Now I must be off in search of an emotionally vulnerable widow woman.
RJ
Stand aside for a moment Aaron Sorkin while I give a brief nod to the passing of Sydney Lumet who left us this morning.
Thank you sir, for some great film.
"Doing well for yourself and your family has very little connection to intelligence."
Thanks, RJ. Now I know why/how Obama, Biden, Reid, Pelosi, Hoyer, Boxer, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Dennis Kucinich, Charlie Rangel, Jimmy Carter, Soros, Bill Maher, Arianna Huffington, etc. got as far as they did.

P.S. I'm not a Palin fan. I'm more ambivalent about her than anything else. And I don't believe she packs the gear to be President, or for that matter, Vice President.
RJ: What's the IQ score, minimum requirement to be "not stupid"? And, is it ok to be stupid and doing well? And, if you're not stupid, must you be smart? And, are smart people upset when stupid people do well? And, would it be better to be stupid and doing well or smart and sucking at everything? Glorifying buffoonery is one of the worst characteristics ever! Actually, if the press wasn't so obsessed with her you wouldn't know about that crazy glorification of buffoonery and wouldn't know that you should call her stupid. Sorkin is pretty talented, for sure. But, he writes fiction and other than being addicted to cocaine and having a few odd jobs, that's about it. Not the kind of guy I'd rely on for advice.
In regards to the lyric, stupid refers to the public, not Palin, and our willingness to consume whatever is new, flashy and gives good press...
You'll notice I said our, because sometimes good press lands my ass on the couch sucking up the pablum too.
Ms Amanda: Apologies are in order. Sorry. RJ: Same for my reply to you. Just read it. Pretty lame. Can't believe how passive I feel!
Stupid is as stupid does!
Aaron Sorkin AND Sally Fields! Can't beat that.
How did the Flying Nun make it into this thread?
Wasn't she Forrest's Mama?
Had Palin been Forrest's mama he would have ended up as the spokeperson for the special olympics.
RJ
RJ: Is that a bad thing? Interesting comment, yours.
As I recall part of the appeal of Forrest's relationship with his mother was that she empowered him to make his own choices. Palin would have recognized immediately the best way to maximize the economic value of this charming little borderline intellectual boy was to exploit the sympathies of her sychophants. His destiny would have been set. Ironically this is a hypothesis that is testable. Let's see what becomes of Trigg. Do you suppose Bristol would have become a well compensated spokesperson for teen abstinence without her mother's influence and connections? This point also goes to the I.Q. question. Do you suppose Bristol had a business plan while she was fucking the local cock gangster Levi?
RJ
RJ: Your anger, or is that jealousy, is palpable. It's a given that, like Forrest's Mamma, Palin would not have aborted him.
Bill your long distance internet psychoanalysis always amuses me. I'm setting in a reclining chair in my underwear watching a show on the Yellowstone Wolves, drinking coffee, reading. I'm about as serene and content in my little man cave as I could be without mood altering substances. Answer the questions I posed and quit posing as a medium.
RJ
RJ: My advice? Get some mind altering substances. Of course Bristol had no plan while porking Levi. Unfortunately there was no convenient Planned Parenthood facility and the poor thing had to suffer the consequences. Truthfully, I could never understand how a knocked up teen got a gig as a spokesperson for abstinence. Have to agree with you on that one. Sunday morning and Yellowstone wolves! Doesn't get any bettr than that.

Life is good. I will include your endorsement of public TV with my membership renewal.

Ditto on Sidney Lumet.
Though I was impressed by the special effects, I never liked Forrest Gump. The movie seems to criticize people for having an opinion, be that opinion on the left or the right. And look at how it treats the girl whom Forrest eventually marries. She explores various subcultures and alternative lifestyles, and is punished for it by dying of AIDS. I wouldn't be surprised if for some people that was their favorite part of the movie.
Forrest Gump sucked balls. So Did Saving Private Ryan.
Yes, your humble hostess has been drinking. She appreciates the readership's continued support.
erf.
I like both movies. Saving Private Ryan is about as close as a filmmaker will come to replicating the horror that was Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944. As one with a degree specializing in 20th Century American and European military history, I can say that it was very accurate for the most part (uniforms, weaponry, tactics, etc.).
I have not been drinking, BTW. Maybe I should start ... ;-)

Saving Private Ryan should be required viewing by all high school students. Maybe it could replace Al Gore's fakeumentary.
What about The Hurt Locker, Al?
Haven't seen it. As I'm not an EOD guy, I'm not sure I'd be qualified to comment in any case.

I'm not talking about the historical details in Ryan, I'm talking about the way the plot was handled. I haven't seen it in a zillion years, so I can't cite specifics, but it was stuff like dialog, score and characterization that I found overly dramatic.
IMHO Gary Sinise, Lt.Dan, saved Gump. He should have won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. I never met anyone in Alabama who ever said "Laf is lak a box uf choculates."
And was pissed because Pulp Fiction wasn't in the running for best movie.
RJ
RJ. I don't think Hollywood likes Sinise. Way too conservative.
