Erin O'Brien, plainly dealt

The Cleveland Plain Dealer ran a profile on me over the weekend. How strange that someone else is writing about me. I hope I was interesting fodder.

Read that yesterday, Erin. I thought it was a good piece and it was interesting to hear someone write about you rather than you writing about yourself. It gave me new perspective.

I thought the article a fair assessment.

Now please indulge an off topic moment:

Why would anyone pay 165 bucks for a fat goose liver?

If you're going to be written about by the PD, Heaton is surely the one to do it. He's a pro's pro.

Erin, Heaton wrote that your sense of humor stands in stark contrast to the darkness and deadpan bitterness of BETTER, but the excerpt you provided a while back, where a booze and drug-addled character critiques THE LOVE BOAT, was hilarious. At least I found it hilarious. Maybe I was reading it out of context, I don't know. And while I don't remember if I saw the particular episode of RUGRATS that your brother wrote, that was a children's series that could make me, an alleged adult, laugh out loud on occasion. It would seem to me a sense of humor indeed runs in your family, even if you perhaps utilize it a bit more than your brother did.

Here's what you miss reading online: That story was on a section front, with 4 columns wide Erin smiling at you above the fold! It was cool. (erin I am getting you a big shiny reprint as soon as the guy who does it shows up--he's not here today)

Hate it when heaton (and petkovic) expose the good dive bars, but love it when he does stuff like this. Very balanced, flowed beautifully between you and John. Great piece.

I get the PD and have saved your smiling face. I met Heaton and was impressed with his 911 story at a writers' meetup. I am so happy when I call you my friend. And though I have a new post, I only ask that you keep on keeping on.

I was surprised, excited and happy to see the article about you in the Plain Dealer 09-27-2009. Wondering what had ever become of you, from the days after graduating from Ohio University; Writing your first resume, geared to obtaining that first Electrical Engineering position; and Getting that position with The Standard Oil Company, where you functioned and performed with great success. I no longer have to wonder. I am now doing catch up by reading all that I can from your website, so that I will no longer be in the dark. I am proud of you and I will never again, pass up the Scene Magazine rack without picking up a paper to see what you have to say. Take care and GOOD LUCK!
