Actual consumer spending--the real thing, not an opinion--is down. Way down.

if people don't realize that we need to seriously cross-check our sources...work HARD to get the facts nowadays, we'll remain a population of spoon-fed maggots.

i see this shit almost every day: sales of existing homes goes up, but but...unemployment creeps up as well. unemployment is down but but...more jobs were lost this quarter than last.

As for your question, I have no doubt that the global economy is in the crapper, the good news everyone is trying *so* hard to find and point to is the exception, not the rule.
