What could possibly go awry?
Thanks for bringing this to people's attention, Erin...it means much in my neighborhood. You would think we would learn from our past, but such is our folly.
Folly, Sarah Palin and the Republican Party seem to go together. Remember Bobby Jindal's comment making a joke of Volcano monitoring provision in the Stimulus Plan?
I wonder if Sister Sarah can still see Russia through the Volcanic Ash.

ReDoubt is active (again). It erupted just a few hours ago, sending a plume to 30,000 feet...let's hope it simmers.
Fingers crossed. The winds at lower altitudes are not in our favor at this time.

Who the hell let Chevron build a oil tank farm at the base of an active volcano in the first place?
Or did they just go ahead and build it without telling anybody?

Fool, I'm glad you posted this. Erin, I'm glad you linked it. Not many people realize these sorts of things are going on.
Side note - I work in a cubicle looking at photos of foreclosed homes all day long. It's interesting what people will leave behind.
Today I came across a photo of a McCain/Palin yard sign in the abandoned garage of a foreclosed home. I wonder if those people would still have voted the same had they known they'd lose their home. Doesn't change anything...it's just interesting to think about.
The Fool's post isn't just well-written, it comes from an Alaska resident, which really gives it legs.

It does help to put things in perspective. 100 years from now, we will all be dead and Mt. Redoubt will still be erupting.
Once again, we here in Ohio are thinking of our friends in Alaska. We are not so far from this type of problem either. The western side of Ohio sits on a faultline as big as San Andreas. Do a google search on the eartquake in Anna Ohio, you will see what I mean. I remember when I was a kid we had a tremor, that ran all the way from Anna through Knoxville TN and to the gulf. I wonder if we will ever learn, it is not "our world", we are just the stewards.
Thanks for kind thoughts, folks. ReDoubt erupted a second time today, spewing ash and gas 65,000 feet into the air. Ashfall is currently coming down on us in Homer. I have posted an update at the site...but I am going to have to sign off for now in order to secure the homefront. I will post again when I am able. Thanks for helping spread the word about the Chevron fiasco, Erin. Later.
Back online. All's good on the home front.
The ashfall has subsided in Homer. Snowfall late this afternoon probably helped a lot.
The latest on Chevron's tank farm is in the recent update...in a nutshell, they can't do anything right now because the runway next to the facility is closed (covered with debris).
The National Weather service has also issued a flash flood warning for the Drift River Valley - and it doesn't sound good.
