I suppose it would be an inappropriate venue for him to perform "I'm on Fire," my favorite Springsteen song.

But then these lyrics:

"Sometimes it's like someone took a knife, baby edgy and dull, and cut a six-inch valley through the middle of my soul. At night I wake up with the sheets soaking wet and a freight train running through the middle of my head...."

That could easily describe the past eight years so yeah, maybe he could successfully perform that song at the rally.

Let's just at least try to keep the annual Cleveland Kielbasa Festival at the National Polka Museum apolitical, could we at least do that??

Enjoy the gridiron gridlock, Erin.

By apolotical I'm assuming Zen minds his own casing in Hotlanta, no?

Edit:
I couldn't delete my comment but that should read apolitical.

Springsteen: Not a big fan, but I've been forced to play many of his tunes in bands I've played in.

Obama: Not a fan.

Cleveland: I remain a fan.

So, to sum up:

Springsteen/Obama/Cleveland: No/No/Yes.

"forced to play"

??

What? Did a liberal giantess sit on your chest and tickle you until you agreed to do "Pink Cadillac" with the rest of the guys?

Now Al, please stop acting like a mean ol' elephant!

Erin,

No, a liberal giantess didn't sit on my chest and tickle me. When I say "forced" I mean that I didn't particularly care for the material but had to play it anyway as it was in the band's repetoire. It's been like that since I first started playing in bands when I was 15 - there's always some tunes one doesn't particularly care for but has to play anyway. If the public wants to hear it and you want to keep getting gigs, you have to play it.

The song I hate playing the most:

Freebird

It never fails that some drunk jackass will come up to the stage/bandstand and ask the band to play Freebird. It's almost as if the offending rube believes that something magical will happen for him if gets played (trust me, it won't). When you say "well, we don't do that one" the moron looks at you like you have three thumbs growing out of your forehead ("what? you don't play that?")

The last band I was in we had a sign in front of us that read "Freebird - $100." Basically, if they wanted to pay us a hundred bucks, we'd play it. If not - no Freebird (we all pretty much hated the song - it's been played to death).

We did play Born to Run, which was actually a fairly fun tune to play. We did Glory Days too, kind of boring for me though.

P.S. The Veterans for Obama sign? I have only three words: They'll Be Sorry. As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for - you might just get it.

Well, lookie what you got voting for Bush. Sorry for that?

Had anyone else been in the Oval Office 200-2008, we would not have gone to war with Iraq.

Erin,

For the record, I did not vote for George Bush. In fact, I have note voted since I entered active duty over twenty years ago. I felt then (as I do now) that as a serving officer in our Armed Forces that I keep my political sentiments to myself - I served our country without prejudice as to which party's candidate won the election. Besides, my oath was to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and to bear true faith and allegiance to the same. I just felt it best that I not favor one side over the other even though privately I might have very strong preferences (I did and do). This is nothing unusual and is actually a part of our military history.

Speculating whether we would have gone to war in Iraq had Bush not been the President is, I submit, simply that - speculation. We have no way of knowing whether a President Gore or a President Kerry, given the same information presented to Bush, would have gone to war regardless of what they may say today (they, of course, have the gift of hindsight).
