I can't wait

“This is going to finally put her back into a position where we see her like we saw her the first couple weeks,” a McCain official said. “She was herself. She was authentic, and people related to that. … Tonight, she’ll get into a rhythm. You’re going to see her in a way that you haven’t seen her yet.” --Politico

Did I miss something? She read from a teleprompter during the RNC and then just kept repeating soundbites from that speech until it got painfully ridiculous.

I hope she calls Biden as dried-up old shitbag and Biden calls Palin a silly little broad.

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year-old Texas rancher whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to Sarah Palin and her bid to be a heartbeat away from being President.

The old rancher said, “Well, ya know, Palin is a post turtle.”

Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a post turtle was.

The old rancher said, “When you’re driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that’s a post turtle.”

The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor’s face, so he continued to explain. “You know she didn’t get up there by herself, she doesn’t belong up there, she doesn’t know what to do while she is up there, and you just wonder what kind of dumb ass put her up there to begin with.”

It's like I KNOW there is going to be a gruesome accident on Front and Main Streets tonight at 9 p.m.

I hate myself for wanting to watch.

But I am going to watch...

Biden has probably gotten the best coaching money can buy on, "How to mildly chastise an errant female student; without coming across as a sadistic, sexist pig."

Gwen Ifill will throw Palin a zinger about some obscure federal legislation ten years ago, e.g., "So, governor, what did you think of the Sarbanes/Oxley Act, and would you support or oppose the Sarbanes/Oxley Act--and how would you compare it to the Gramm-Rudman Act? You have five minutes--not counting the thirty second 'deer in the headlights'-stare you are looking at me with right now..."

These PBS guys like seeing their name splashed all over the newspapers just as much as the network guys. Just because they have worse suits and teeth, don't let that fool you!

I'm with you - I've actually been looking forward to this evening's entertainment all week.

I can't watch tonight. The outcome won't affect my vote and I can't take the spectacle anymore. My nerves are shot. The fact of Obama pulling away in the polls is freaking me out because I've never been right about anything in my life and the possibility that American politics might swing my way this time is not something I want to jinx.

I'm with you Harry Finch. Check out Slate's slate of articles on Palin. She deduced a long time ago that she didn't need "facts and figures" in order to win a debate against the incumbent Alaska governor. And she was right. Oy

She'll need facts tonight.

The Village Idiot is "authentic." And he is "himself."

That doesn't mean he gets free room and board, a helicopter in the front yard, and the keys to the Strategic Air Command.

You have to be COMPETENT and have GOOD JUDGMENT so you don't GET US ALL KILLED.

if you're around online...the guys over at savvy, extreme, idealist are live blogging the debate.

FIRST (I Guess)

Palin saves Palin. She does nothing for McCain. With the house vote coming up tomorrow this debate will be memorable for about 12 hours.

Love the post turtle story.

I saw Biden as presidential, Palin as a fair understudy for the role of President . . . in a high school musical.

Oh, dear, that was uncharitable. Make it a college musical.

I watched most of the debate with my mouth agog last night. I cannot believe some of the nonsense that came out of her mouth.

The thing that bothered me most about her was her diction. Granted, this woman comes from Alaska. Granted, people from different parts of the country speak in different ways. This woman has not spoken the "g" sound at the end of a word all her life and it makes her sound even dumber than she actually is. . . Get that woman a speech therapist, PLEASE!!!

The absolute best part of the debate was the smile on Biden's face when she actually used all their names and said "...Obama and Obiden..." I truly believe that he wanted to laugh out loud at her.

O'Biden was great..laddy!
She kept invoking Reagan's spirit ("oh now, there ya go again , ya betcha). Someone explain to me how is it we're going to progress and be led by these mavericks, by going back to 1980? Referring to Reagan and trickle down economics is obtuse. Of course, Ben Stein could be back in serious business...Bueller....Bueller...something something economics....

I'm not politico, but I thought that Biden mopped the floor with her. The best that can be said for her was that she didn't embarass herself, but she sure didn't win any voters who weren't already going to vote the big R anyway.

I don't recall a single answer of any import from Palin during the whole evening. Biden, on the other hand, struck the right note: avuncular, strong, resolute. He didn't attack her, he attacked McCain. He boosted Obama at every opportunity.

I think that the best that can be said of Palin is that she didn't drive away any of the party faithful.

Zenwizard: you were wrong about Ifill. She blew it and stayed conservative. By the way, how f-ed is it that I actually know the Sarbanes/Oxley act? (Sarbox). Well, I suppose it helps if you've lived most of your life in Greenbelt/College Park, Maryland.
Cheers! The mention of Sarbox actually made me laugh. Great reference.
