Good O'Brien, Bad O'Brien

Plain Dealer columnist Kevin O'Brien wrote a piece for today's paper titled, "The Sun Comes Out for the GOP," in which the "sun" turns out to be our darling AK47-toting beauty-queen-turned-Guv'ner, Sarah Palin.

"After all," says O'Brien, "if he can pick her as a running mate, he might do OK picking Supreme Court justices."

There are plenty of other tidbits in the article. I'll let you find them on your own.

I emailed O'Brien, sharing the quote I posted yesterday in which Palin calls our current military action a task from God.

Here is his response:
OK, let's see: a candidate who prays to God and wants to do His will vs. a candidate who thinks he is God and that everyone the world over is just panting to do his will.

You're not exactly making the decision more difficult here.

Is it my imagination, or am I closer to God just posting this?

I think the Plain Dealer ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Norm, Kevin's a columnist. He's entitled to his opinion, and if it's wrong-headed, people will buy papers, e-mail him and further inflate his idea of self.

Now, if the election comes down to Ohio, and there's wide-spread allegations of voter fraud, I'm gonna want that dude's head on a pike.

So Erin, are you going to volunteer to register voters? I'm still working on John to take the time off, but I might come alone.

We were thinking about going to bed already, and skip Palin's speech, but I know I wouldn't be able to sleep, and just lie there wondering "what the hell is that crazy bitch saying?" Then, I'd wake up in the a.m. to find the world on fire and know I'd screwed up.

I often do the will of Harvey, my six-foot-tall invisible rabbit friend. Last week, he told me to invade Wisconsin and, by golly, I took to the road and went to Wisconsin--because when a six-foot-tall invisible rabbit tells you to do something, you do it.

Not to toot my own horn, but my take on the hockey mom is is here.

Basically, we can hate her as much as we want, but she is very formidible. If we underestimate her, we'll do so at our own peril.

I started to write I find it depressing that people accept all this stuff, but I realized, what I really meant to say is I find Republicans depressing. Grrrrrrr.

Considering that Palin is vindictive (how un-Christian!) and thinks banning books is a good idea, I have a feeling that one of the first books going on the big bonfire on the White House lawn on President Palin's inauguration day will be Harvey & Eck.

From Time magazine:

Palin continued to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. "She asked the library how she could go about banning books," he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. "The librarian was aghast." That woman, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn't be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire Baker for not giving "full support" to the mayor.

Hal, she is quite formidable in being out of touch with ideas in the 21st Century. And she's quite formidable and adept at hypocrisy and cover-up. I agree, she's spot-on for a Republican ticket.
