Erin as a Brit that isn't part of the fashion to knock americans and blame them for everything, I am proud to be an Americophile!
I love that piece.

About a month ago, I was having dinner in NYC with a couple from Ireland. For some reason, I felt compelled to unload about the culture here in recent years while his responses were, "Well, in the EU, we..." Replace "EU" with "US" and you know how we sometimes sound to foreigners.

Near the end of dinner, though, I said, "I don't want to sound like I hate my country, but for most of my life the bar was up here. Now it's been way down here for the last five years, and it pisses me off."

My Irish friend said, "Don't worry. The bar will raise again soon enough."

Probably when we get leadership that doesn't use the flag as a diaper. You know. They gird their loins with it to show everyone how patriotic they are all the while shitting into it.

I've got tears rolling down my face. Your piece really says it all. Powerful. Beautiful. Exactly.

What a thought provoking article. And a sentiment that needed to be heard now more than ever.
