In my column this week, read the last notes from an Ohio Yankee in King Larry's Court.
If you have something to say about it, please email the Free Times. Be sure to include your full name and city. Frank Lewis is the editor.
And here's a few more pix for the road:
Dig the big guy on the right.
Cheesy grits, green beans, jalapena cornbread and cucumber salad. I was ravenous and this was fine.
Downtown Oxford is charming.
Proud Larry's bar where the concert was held.

Not bad for a yank. My kingdom for some cheese grits and japeleno corn bread, lourd! Well I have to admit I am part yankee, damn strong work and thank you.
Great article, madame.
I particularily enjoyed the yankee smell moment. To my knowledge, I have never smelt, or smelt of "yankee". At least, I haven't recognized the smell as such.
Great story, Erin! I was in Savannah once and, smelling the Yankee on me (I love that line) the waitress in the restaurant tried to be accommodating. Feeling a bit nostalgic for the north, I was thrilled to find a Reuben sandwich on the menu and I ordered it. "Y'all want that on a bagel?" she offered. Then again, maybe it was her way of warning me I should order the cheesy grits....
A drunk, a pervert, a junkie and a sodimizer.
But you can call me the salaminizer
GWAR
(I just had to put this somewhere. I hope you don't mind if I drop off my bits of insanity over here.)
As a Suthenuh whose oduh has been cahrectlee identified by Yankees, Canucks, and Brits alike, I can empathize. This fine spring Wednesdee finds me replete with plaizuh to lollygag about yuh blag and revel in yuh fine distillation of language and such. That yuh are a pahtikuluh woman is only to be celebrated, and anyone who allows as how you deserve a ration of sh*t for it had bettuh not make themselves known in these here parts, I tell you wot! All y'all bettuh watch out!
We need to retrace your route together, and see if they can smell the difference between a Yankee and a Canuck.
You can introduce me to grits while we're there.
FOr an instant I was homesick when I saw the cheese grits and cucumber salad. Then I read your article and thought better. The "Ma'am Ma'am Ma'am"ing made me crazy and the vacant seats because they could smell yankee on you. Some things never change there. Great article.
Didjuh hev enny swayt tay or is thet jus a Carahlahnuh thang?
I miss Larry Brown, too. Let me know if you hear of another concert like this one.
Hey baby! Just popped by to say I am out of the hospital... minus a few brain cells after my last stroke. I'm back! ;)
Happy belated b-day Erin :)
Sorry I wasnt here earlier. Hope you had a blast celebrating! Take care.
