Truth: you can't log on, tune in or turn a page without being bombarded with lose weight fast or this one weird fat burning tip or amazing weight loss secret.
It's all crap and we all know it, but we click anyway. The screen fills with some talking bubble head full of promises as empty as the calories in that can of Pepsi.
Yeah, yeah
Finally, someone's (ahem) shedding some light on what's really behind our burgeoning behinds. This is the single best article I've read about the obesity epidemic. From the article:
"The increasing amount and processing of carbohydrates in the American diet has increased insulin levels, put fat cells into storage overdrive and elicited obesity-promoting biological responses in a large number of people. Like an infection that raises the body temperature set point, high consumption of refined carbohydrates — chips, crackers, cakes, soft drinks, sugary breakfast cereals and even white rice and bread — has increased body weights throughout the population."
Word.

Wing's Hobby Shop RIP
mr
I sure remember Wings, MR. It was a fave spot for my brother John before the demons got him.
And if anyone anywhere cares, here is an excellent companion piece to the article in this post.
You should check out the book: The Real Food Revival by Sherri Brooks Vinton and Ann Clark Espuelas.
It really changes the way you look at all things corn. But it also gives a lot of fascinating background on what the hell happened to the food industry.
Yes, it echos a lot of the sentiment in more popular books/movies like Food Nation, etc. But I found this book much more useful and informative. A good read.
(Having said all that, I must confess that while I was looking for that book so I could write this comment, I was distracted by a bag of cheetos. Guilty!)
It ain't easy being cheesy.
The corn thing makes me NUTS. Corn and soy are in everything. Corn starch, corn syrup, corn and soy protein. It's all processed crap. The whole industrial food scene is terrifying.
Wait'll they kill all the bees. Wonder what the hell we'll be eating then. Got Soylent Green?
