Rainy day Goat

I spied the Goat exhibiting unusual behavior in his natural habitat and quietly approached with my camera in order to capture the moment.

My efforts backfired!

So... it's raining out, and he's watering the bushes. We're not reaching a 'managed-care moment' for Goat here, are we?

I don't think so, CG. The Goat goats around in mysterious ways.

There's no fluoride in rain water.

You want your plants to have healthy teeth, don't you?

PS-The WV got real stupid again. It seemed to be in remission for a while.

Is he ready to flash??

I think he's wearing a Cardigan and loafers under there.

'Goat goating around'...lol, ok, nothing wrong with a bit of eccentricity, especially if it shows up in your next book. But revisiting this page, I realize that I know no one who owns a full-length yellow rain slicker; caught me off guard.

On to background photo minutiae...What is the logo on Goats slicker? Is there a city ordinace or something governing the painting of fire hydrants red and blue?

RJ--The fashionable rainwear comes courtesy of Sohio--John D. Rockefellers original oil company based in Ohio whom I worked for about 6 lifetimes ago.

And for the record, the photo does NOT show the important work I was doing, (so important that I forgot what it was ), involving a wheelbarrow and it is the muddy wheelbarrow which I am cleaning. Our humble hostess looking out the door obviously did not see the importance of my work either.

I would plotz if I had a vintage Sohio raincoat.
Standard Oil of Ohio was the first spinoff of Standard Oil forced by anti-trust litigation. Ultimately, the holding company formed by JohnDee's lawyahs to contain court-ordered spinoffs
made him the first billionaire. The rich got richer. He was a real nasty sunuvabitch in business, but also brilliant and philanthropic as hell(Spelling University). I think some of that largesse in the old days was brought on by the belief in the hereafter, and that by giving away some of your wealth you got a free pass through the Pearly Gates concerning how you got rich.

Some of the first Standard Oil refinery still stands on the banks of the Cuyahoga. As our fearless leaders continue to exhibit signs of intelligence( Whiskey Island, Towpath, Metroparks taking over lakefront, etc.), maybe it will soon dawn on them what a historically important site it really is. There was a bronze plaque, but that got stole for scrap.
Where the River Meets the Lake is solid gold.

I thought the old Sohio logo too, but couldn't conceive a raincoat with that logo looking to be in that good of shape.

That's funny about the true purpose of the activity-I saw a tumblr called 'Just the right angle' or somesuch which features similarly 'misconscrewed' pics.

As far as the philanthropy is concerned, it seems Mr Gates and Mr Buffet are intent on giving away as much of their fortunes in their lifetimes as is possible. I don't really know any other contemporary exemplars, but they must be out there. In the eyes of many keeping a low profile tends to add to the virtue of the act.

phil, on the history of the region there was talk a while back about creating a park-like museum in the flats to include some of the technological achievements of the region, such as one of the iconic Hulett ore unloaders, but I haven't seen any fresh news for quite a while. It would be a shame if all of that history is lost and forgotten.

The two remaining Huletts are rotting on their sides. That's about a four hour, highly unproductive rant for me, so I'll stifle. I will mention that the badasses down at the USS Cod found two spare engines(!)from another Cod-class sub, and are getting the Cod back together. This is such an astonishing technological feat it would be at least an eight hour rant. Those engines,(V-16, 1,600 horsepower, 43,000 lbs. each) were built in the CLE by the vestigial remains of the Winton Engine Company.

My pix of the Hulett graveyard and Whiskey Island.

My mom worked at the Winton place for years, starting as a receptionist and eventually moving on to manager.

@ phil&Erin...

I learned about the Huletts many years ago, in a piece in a railfan magazine, when they were still operational. I feel fortunate to have seen them in action. I wonder if the operator, seated near the head of the scoops, didn't feel like Fred Flintstone down at the quarry.

If memory serves, preservationists backed off efforts to keep at least one unit in place with a promise of the reassembly for display elsewhere. Sad indeed to see how that turned out. Also, if memory serves, they could be viewed from Pier W restaurant's 'peerless' view of downtown.

A quick Google suggests the longest continuous talk is in the neighborhood of 124 hours. I'm thinking we need to brew up some coffee and get philbilly ranting and shoot for the record.

A slickered goat...who knew Go check out the Pen in Hand to view a Squonk. I love saying Squonk but a slickered Squonk might be such a sight

Just got the Peerless pun. Better late than never.

RJ, I usta give accredited technical seminars that lasted two full eight hour days, and always felt I hadn't crammed enough minutiae in to really flesh out the details.

Never give Powerpoint to someone with ADD.

Q.) How many kids with ADD does it take to change a light bulb?
A.) Wanna ride bikes?

@ phil-Don't worry about delayed reaction on the pun. Speaking of ADD, I forgot I wrote it.

I'll have to remember the light bulb joke. It is equally apropos for autistic kids-in fact, it is a pretty good summary of the way their minds process information sometimes.

Out of respect for others likely to be reading this, I have fought off the temptation to tell the PMS/ESP joke.

g'night all.......MR
