Balloon room

This gallery at the Art Museum is normally full of stuff by your Rodin dude. I call it the Ice Cube and I dig it.

But because this is Cleveland and we are totally fabulous, we decided to give your Rodin dude a break and fill up the Ice Cube with purple balloons courtesy of another dude, Martin Creed.

People wait in line to get into the balloon-filled Ice Cube.

When you are in the balloon room, you are in the balloon room.

You become one with the balloons.

It's like being in a scene that didn't make the cut for Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory but should have--some combination of the Fizzy Lifting Drinks and Violet Beauregarde blueberries.

People, it's totally balloony.

The Ice Cube will only be filled with balloons until Nov. 25 (hey, how long are you going to put out Rodin?), so get your miserable carcass over here before the whole thing is, well, popped.

~~This is the effervescence and the light. These are the secrets.~~

If it's not tacky to piggyback, here's my take:

Welcome Luke, and link away. I loved your post.
It was what inspired me to overcome my initial reluctance and go in the "Purple People Eater."

Erin-do they change out the balloons every day? Even after a few hours balloons loose their luster, by the end of the day there must be a lot of tired-looking balloons in there.

Cool stuff. And Rodin could use a little R-n-R, he's so *serious* all the time...

Them thar's about 25,000 balloons.

What I didn't include here was the sound of balloons popping, which is hilarious as this installation is right next to a gallery that is full up with seriously serious $hit being viewed by seriously serious art people who all sort of jump the way people do whenever a balloon pops.

I asked one of the Balloon Guards about replenishing the balloons. She said they add about 1000 new balloons every week.

And yes, some of the balloons are new and shiny and some are sort of deflated and dull, but you really don't notice.
