The economy is improving so click this, muthas

When you are a freelance feature/essay writer, you are pretty much on the front line of the economy.

I think the absolute bottom was back in the summer of 2010, when I was writing articles for $15 a pop. But peeps, judging by the work that I have now, things are definitely improving and I am one busy little beaver; hence my absence around here lately.

I did however (ahem) run aground on something that (ahem ahem) stopped me dead in the water: click here for some incredibly fascinating pix that will surprise and confound you at every turn.

Glad to hear it. Does Romney know?

The more beavers that are busy the better.

Your lead photograph, the former Soviet cruiser Murmansk, is a fascinating salvage story. The vessel was being towed (in December-a really bad time of year to try and do anything in the Barents Sea or the Norwegian Sea)and broke its line, running aground in Norway. Ecological concerns(radiation, PCBs, and fire-suppression chemicals) led to an enormous project to scrap the hulk in place. A giant cofferdam-a kind of earthen temporary dry dock-was built around the vessel to keep out the sea, and was then drained so the scrapping could take place.

I love that your personal economy is improving, Little Beaver. I think you and Red Ryder (Goat) and Little EOB, are a role model American family. For example, instead of joining the occupy losers and whining, you wrote about them and kept writing things that someone might buy. I'm guessing that your local government, state government, and federal government, had very little to do with your personal comeback. The family unit provides a stable environment and allows for the inevitable ups and downs of the economy. Union? What for? Hard work and talent work for you.

"Union? What for?"

That's what the Confederates said. Blame Lincoln.

I loves me some shipwrecks. The first one on that page you linked to looks a lot like the Peter Iredale, which is on the beach in NW Oregon...my childhood home. (The location of the ship pictured there is not noted, so I'm not completely sure if it is my ship, but it sure looks to be.)

There is just something about these ghosts of the sea. I can't put my finger on it. Just like old crumbling buildings, they draw me in somehow. Buried treasure and all that.

If only they could talk.

We love to visit Fort Stevens and check out the ship wreck. Great beach, interesting history :)

oh, bill, so lame. the local, state, and fed contributed. nothing happens in a vacuum. really, nothing. we don't live or work in isolation. yes, we absolutely contribute our own efforts and abilities. no, we don't do it alone.

Channeling Elizabeth Warren, rraine, is appropriate, giving the Little Beaver reference.

Another "talk is cheap" hypocrite, Anon. Read your article and notice that your hero is a feckless advocate for the 99%. Change the channel.
