I was very much a rock purist in 1983 or so, and only liked bands with a stripped-down, back-to-basics approach, like Bruce Springsteen, Bob Segar, Tom Petty, etc. Looking back, I wish I hadn't been so narrow-minded. Lot of creativity going on back then. Since so many of those bands were one-hit wonder, that creativity was short lived, but nevertheless, it was refreshing. And of course, music aside, there was a lot of creativity in the videos themselves. Whether I liked the music or not, I remember sitting in front of the set mesmerized, as I watched one amazing (and occasionally confusing) set of images after another.
Nina Blackwood is 68? That puts her in her late '30s in MTVs heyday. She seemed younger. But as I was in my early 20s, my perspective was kind of skewed anyway. Didn't Nina play a hooker in the early '80s grindhouse classic VICE SQUAD? Martha Quinn always seemed to be the most enthusiastic of the bunch. As she was so young, maybe it's because she was new to TV. J.J. Jackson has sadly passed on. May he rest in peace. Actually, I think he was pretty much in peace when he was still alive, as he was the most laid-back of the bunch.

Not only did I enjoy searching for these songs, I listened to them all of the way through, sometimes more than once.

I had a strong dose of MTV because I had a colicky baby. The choices on TV in the middle of the night weren't what they are now. I was exposed to some things I loved and some things that made me scratch my head like WTF? This freaks me out.
