Every once in great while, when two opposites come together and balance one another in perfect harmony, a purity of beauty is achieved that cannot be eclipsed.

Bill said...

alph: an example, please, of this purity of beauty that cannot be eclipsed? Or is it, as they say, in the eye of the beholder?

Bill said...

Erin: If man/woman IS balance; gay/straight CANNOT be balance. Man is to woman as gay is to straight? Not that there's anything wrong with that.

The pairs aren't necessarily analogous to other pairs, Bill. Every conceptual opposite depends on it's diametrically opposite partner.

There is a little dot of hetero in every homosexual and vice versa. A bisexual person has more equal dollops of both.

No matter how masculine a man is, there is some softness to him.

This is weird, but true: my masculine dot grew a tiny bit when my dad died.

One pair that fits within my post was "war peace." I did not include it because it made me sad.

Bill,
Yes, the eye of the beholder has a great deal to do with it. But consider a particularly spectacular sunrise or sunset; the merging of dark and light, or beginning and end if you prefer, producing a perfect moment.

Erin: So, gay and straight are more similar than opposite?

The answer to your question, grasshopper Bill, lies in your naked reflection.

I should know, by now, not to question the genius of EOB. I'm the willing victim of a smack down.

I find, quite frequently, that the F word is the most appropriate word for the situation. I wouldn't call it a magical word but it's pretty damn important. I don't know any sailors or ex sailors who could communicate without it.

Jon Moore said...

Ahh the F word. Quite possibly the most versatile word in the English language. Verb, adverb, subject, adjective and all those other applications that I never bothered to learn the proper terminology for.
I propose that our Humble Hostess put together a post using the simple F word in all of its various forms. Erin?

A hot witch at that.

Christine O'Donnell looks like nothing more than your typical suburban Southern California soccer mom. I know. I live here.

Hey Rory! Stereotype much?

F bombs and SoCal soccer moms?

Incorrigible, you are!

Bill, take a few minutes to look outside your hardened shell. That's what there is in the Santa Clarita Valley, 30 minutes north of Los Angeles. That's where I am and I see it EVERY...FUCKING....DAY. In the SUVs I pass by, at the parks, it's there, Bill. You can even pinpoint the areas they populate most, including Stevenson Ranch.

Rory L. Aronsky said...

The first season of "Weeds"? That's Stevenson Ranch. That's what inspired creator Jenji Kohan, and most of the show was filmed directly there, and at the nearby Santa Clarita Studios.

Bill said...

Rory: What! No EOB types near where you live? Only Christine O'donnell like soccer moms? OK then. You've cracked my hardened shell.

Bill: We've also got a city council that's stupidly considering breaking off from the County of Los Angeles public library system, and handing off the three libraries in this valley to a private company that can't possibly match the resources offered in the ability to put books on hold that being part of that system, does. Oh, and nearly none of the council actually has library cards. Does that make you hard?

Dudesworthy, you give good quote. :)

I've been warped, too, by pop culture's insistence on conservative-looking librarians letting their hair down, taking their glasses off, and becoming hot tamales.
