Salad days

The college years are both formative and exhilarating for young people.

Encouraging the co-ed to express her creativity by exploring her eclectic and whimsical tastes serves both form and function while nurturing the learning environment.

Engaging in a variety of healthy activities helps students maintain vigor and interest.

The importance of adequate rest cannot be stressed enough.

Consuming sufficient liquids is also crucial,

 as is proper nutrition.

Collegiate friendships are not only a necessary component of social recreation, they also build a network upon which students may rely for much needed interpersonal support.

While graduation day is a culmination of pride, hard work and accomplishment, it is also a solemn time for reflection  and humility.

Addendum per request:

The weekend visit home often includes special sharing time with old friends.

love them! i thought i was the only person who went to see The Firm, but it turns out your bud was there, as well. long live the EOB, whiskey, turntables, rock-n-roll, and JOHN!

goddamit OB for bringing back similar memories...the bud w/the I.R.S. records shirt....just reminds me of when (some) labels were actually good, and were putting out good artists. i was just behind you by a cycle during these years (my university bracket went from '86-90), but i even miss the LOOK people had in those days. come on man, how can you go wrong with curly hair and a moustachio. and fucking concert t-shirts...man...now it's all about bullshit gadgets and hipster skinny jeans and matted hair. fuck that shit, brah.

my first car was a '69 Camaro w/a three-fitty engine. mothafucka was always in the shop(pe), but when it was running it was RUNNING.

You have been added, Mr. Dan!

I'm with you Alex, and I can see this comment thread is going to be a beautiful thing.

That second picture reminds me so much of my first apartment after college. I think I had that same couch, in the same position in the apartment with the same floors. Is that a sliding glass door I see off to the side? I didn't have a big plastic goose then, though. :(

Am I allowed to say "Holy Shit" again?

Erin, believe it or not, I still have that sweater.

The things I don't have are a well-toned waist line, and hair.

Those photos brought back so many things for me- Swine, I totally agree- the IRS records t-shirt (Wall of Voodoo, anyone?), the lack of gadgets, and all the rest. I hate to even say this, since it makes me feel like going on a Grampa Simpson rant, but things were at least a little simpler back then, even though we were on the cusp of living the way we do now. It was a blast from the word "go".

Erin, do you have any other pictures from Weld? I couldn't remember.

Thank you for helping to start my Monday the right way with the glimpse of that pizza-eating outfit.

Holy lord, I just saw the graduation outfit!

I'm sure as hell not going to get anything done today. Because this is going to lead right back to the Maxim Hometown Hotties website for me. Oh well. I'd rather do that than anything else.

I have a bunch of OU pix Dan. Gimme a ring next time your in town and we'll go through them while sippin' a Stroh's, which I have chillin' in the garage as I type this.

Erin O'Brien said...

Rory, you are too kind.

I think I might still have the underwear in the pizza pic.

Swine, is that a mint VW Dasher(Passat) yer drivin? Not as cool as the Camaro, way more reliable.

Ditto on the Shelley Long clone, Erin, where is she now, pray tell.

And that is one fine bucket o' beer.

This brought back some meories for me - I may need to swipe the idea for my own!

BTW - Word verification is humptio - hump my Mexican uncle? really?

Erin-

I lost your number when an older computer was hit by lightning some time ago. Drop me a line at

danb64@bellsouth.net

Keep that Stroh's cold! I'll be there for Christmas.

By the way- that photo where everyone looks drenched- was that from Springfest '86?

Vince said...

You were a hot bit back then.

Anonymous said...

Philbilly, indeed it was. Mint, band new, at a whopping $7,000-ish. Bought by my hard earned money working as an usher/projectionist at AMC Movie Theaters for 5 years. Word up.

I'm still a VW guy. Now tooling around in one of them re-designed, 2006 Jettas. Workhorses.

Rory L. Aronsky said...

What are you saying, Vince? She's still a hot bit.

Philbilly, pardon me, I mis-read your comment. That was a mint condition, brand spankin' new VW FOX. Loaded with absolutely NOTHING. No power windows, no power locks, no cruise, 2 doors (station wagon!), no AC, 4 speed. Oh...and no passenger side mirror, either. Suweet.

Mr. Corn said...

That's my brother in the Firm shirt. Wasn't that Halloween?

Erin O'Brien said...

My oh my. Welcome Mr. Corn. And dare I add: Stroh's is spoken here.

philbilly said...

My error Swine, I was in the wrong decade. Again.

The road to perdition is paved with power accessories.
