Ol' Jane and the Kingster

Why in the hell anyone gives Larry King a microphone is beyond me. He has to be one of the worst interviewers of all time, yet there he is on CNN every night soaking up perfectly good human energy.

I do not normally watch the Kingster, but for some reason, I decided to see what ol' Jane had to say the other night, so I lingered for a while and can report that the above excerpt is as good as the interview got.

Jane kept doing this weird thing with her lips. There were dozens of awkward pauses. She also plugged her fitness "concert" (with the Pointer Sisters and Richard Simmons for only $75 a head!) so often, that it even began to irritate King.

Fonda sniped at King over his ex wives (I have to agree, Larry, seven ex wives is just plain embarrassing) and King brought up the Hanoi Jane thing. Fonda called it a created myth and said she was sad so many people were stuck in the past. I was seven years old when the controversy happened and don't know much about it, but this 38-year-old topic can still get some righties really pissed off.

At 76, the Kingster is like Skeletor in suspenders. It doesn't have to be this way, but seeing as he's only slightly more animated than a cadaver, what's a person left to notice about him?

I'll admit that ol' Jane looks pretty damn good for 72, and that there is no effing way I could have gotten into that cute V pose at any age, but I do sort of dig those snappy yellow leg warmers.

I can not stand watching the kingster either but for some reason that interview happened to be on my tv..watched about 3 minutes and my husband said "How old is she"..I just laughed and said I think 70 something..he litterally looks like he is going to fall over any minute..I always look to see if there are strings holding him up..

Larry King is popular because celebrities can go on his poor excuse for a show and not worry about getting broadsided with hard-hitting, real questions.

He and his ilk make me embarrassed to reveal I was once a journalist.

It costs a lot of money to look like Jane does at 72. People shouldn't hold her up as an example of anything but the privilege that money brings.

Even though Jane has always irritated me in a way I can't readily define, I love how she makes the rightoids veins pop with rage.

I have not been able to follow up but I heard someone say on the radio the other day Jane has embraced Christianity. Did she mention her newfound faith?

RJ

P.S. Her Hanoi incident is well documented but as I was reading it a moment ago I was struck by her statement “I believe in my heart, profoundly, that the dikes are being bombed on purpose”.
Not much has changed for the conservatives huh?

She may have mentioned it, RJ. I didn't listen to the whole interview.

I like watching Larry King but not because of his interviewing style. It's just that he has a lot of forgotten celebrities (or used to, the show's had an obsession with murder and mayhem of late) and, as one whose brain is completely saturated with 20th century pop culture, I'm curious as to what those celebrities are up to these days. I'm certainly not curious as to what today's celebrities are up to. God knows, thare's enough out there about Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, etc.

When interviewing celebrities whose heyday was decades ago, I don't really expect hardball questions. However, I do think it's a bit obnoxious to be nicey-nice with the celebs, and then act like an asshole to somebody who calls in. Marlon Brando once razzed King on the air for hanging up on a caller who took too long in asking a question. Go Marlon!

Me again. I just want to say I agree with Dean. There's a reason stars age at a much slower rate than the rest of us.

Larry King makes me want to 'frow up.' He always - always talks over his guests. He's much more interested in what he has to say, which is usually something about their private lives. Jane really zinged him when he insisted on asking if she is 'engaged,' when Jane was really excited about the event she was having. I've always been a big fan of hers - I frankly didn't much care about her trip to North Korea, although I do believe she's expressed regret for hurting people. She's done many generous things with her wealth and, man, could she act. My favorites are 'Klute,' and 'They Shoot Horses, Don't They'? But I just can't watch LK; to me he's really pukey!

I had a 'thing' 'til I realises she was the same age as my mother !.

I don't understand... Jane Fonda is 72? My mother had all of her aerobics videos in the 80s. I hope I look that good at 42, let alone 72!

Fonda went to support the North vietmanese, not North korea.

I guess it is alla myth, except for the pictures of her sitting on a NV anti-aircraft gun...

What is the difference between her acts overtly supporting our enemy (whether we should have been at war is irrelevent) and Tokyo Rose?

HB-
She also received a note from one of our P.O.W.'s there, given to her in secret, and promptly turned that note over to the North Vietnamese. That prisoner was then beaten and tortured horribly.
Fonda is a terrible human being.
