Dear Conservatives:

If you believe George Bush kept this country safe from terrorists for seven years, you are also obliged to believe Obama's stimulus saved the country from 25 percent unemployment.

That is all.

the stimulus package and bank bailouts would have come no matter who was in office. love to hear the idiots on the right crow about this, when the entire fucking time they've had Greenspan whispering sweet nothings (literally) in their ears. wake up; the two parties are pretty fundamentally similar. check out the great job Congress has been doing for decades. i am baffled by this, however. Congress traditionally gets awful positive ratings (12-18%) which naturally means Americans aren't happy w/the job they're doing...yet....YET we keep electing the same fuckos over and over again. tell me, then...how fucking stupid are we as voters in general? it never fails to astound the stupidity and futility of the American voter. oh, and i truly believe we deserve all the bullshit coming our way re: environment, resources, social problems, infrastructure, education, etc. we want this. we truly do.

Erin: I agree with you about the bank bailout. W started the ball rolling. But, he was no conservative.
As long we keep electing weasels, we get the government we deserve.

I'm no political warrior, but I firmly believe that no political party has any business placing blame on the shoulders of one man. For that matter, neither should the American public.

I am all for a balanced budget because that is the way I live my life. How many Americans can say that? I hope more than I can fathom. However, it is my humble belief that the MASSES and the banks are responsible for the time bomb that finally exploded. And, guess what America, there is no MAGIC button to push to fix the economy, only untested and unproven ways and hopes to shore it up. If they hadn't tried to do something they would have been vilified just the same. They can't win. It's all a blame game. People, start with your own budget, then point a finger.

Erin O'Brien said...

Budget's balanced here. If I can't write a check for it, I don't buy it. (Knock on wood, Erin, and hope it stays that way.)

Uncle Sam spends $$ in three places: Social Security, Medicare, and the military. That's it. All those $3,000 toilet seats don't add up to squat next to those three.

You want balanced budget, you've got to raise taxes and cut spending on the three biggies. Simple. As. That.

A Daft Scots Lass said...

Unfortunately I cannot comment on US politics.

Dan Bushman said...

Nicely put, Erin.

But that's like saying to balance the budget at home, there's three biggies - beer, cable TV, and beer.

Can you really cut any of those three?

Erin O'Brien said...

I'm sure as hell not going to cut the Marital Aid Budget.

Aw, come on now, baby, can you really look into these big brown eyes and skimp?

Jean Michelle Miernik said...

WHUT--Are you saying that American voters aren't logical???

The Republican/Democrat political "debates" remind me of Michigan State vs. U of Michigan football fans more than anything else. Same amount of screaming, same amount of sense.

S(wine) u said it well!.

I agree Erin ... the budget is as simple (and difficult) as managing one's weight. Wanna eat the calories, you gotta exercise your ass off if you wanna stay in shape. I have yet to see anyone (conversative or liberal alike) who doesn't want to partake in the feast. I work in an environment wherein I observe the most staunch of "republicans" figure out how to get their parents or themselves a great seat on the Medicare train while simultaneously conserving their family wealth. And then, they wanna wail on about welfare recipients. I sit and stare at the buffet table ... hmmm ... what's that dish? Hypocrisy?

Erin O'Brien said...

Taxes? Here's the truth: I stared at that Bush tax rebate check thinking, why the hell am I getting this money? Who the hell is paying for the war?

Our federal taxes are low. People are delusional.

"the unemployment rate among terrorists is now at 0%. full employment!" Now there's a stimulus program!

We do a great job of defining the problem, what's the solution? As silly as I think the teabaggers are I respect the fact they are trying to agitate outside the traditional party structure. However, as soon as they began to get some traction the bag men came in and co-opted the leadership(i.e. there's gold in being a firebrand) and began to suck the movement back into the mainstream beast. How is that process circumvented?

Social Security is not a drain on the federal budget. The federal budget has stolen all the Social Security funds.

Erin O'Brien said...

You are so right Mr. Finch. I say cut military spending, but we all know how that goes over.

Harry Finch said...

Maybe we should put retired people in the military. Work in the garden in the morning, drinks after lunch, then a little nap, followed by the early bird special and bed by seven. Hard to conduct a war that way.

Put the old folks in charge of interrogating captured terrorists. A week of hearing some old fart tell the same story over and over and over would break even Osama.

That's a ridiculous assumption, Erin. The facts are: there were no more terrorist attacks under Bush. Conversely, who knows what unemployment would have been under McCain? You've fabricated a completely unprovable strawman.
But we do know what unemployment was under Obama:

Rotten

And so far off the mark you have to wonder if that stimulus money didn't just pay off his cronies. No, I'm not obliged to believe a damned thing about him.

All the best,

Barry Soetoro is the most dangerous threat to freedom since Communism. He is a committed Marxist homosexual ideologue who is ramming socialism and fascism down our throats.

The porkulous was a ridiculous crony payoff that hasn't and will not do shit. If the upper marginal tax rate was cut to 30 percent, and the capital gains tax suspended, we would be in full recovery by now, as it was soon after the Bush tax cuts.

That makes me very angry!!!

And the fact that he refuses to prove his eligibility to be POTUS (something all of his predeccesors have gladly done) only underscores what a maniacal man child he is.

Progressive Marxists are turning on him, and patriots will turn out in record numbers to kick the Democrat Party out in November, and Sarah Palin will win in a 50 state sweep in '12.

Erin O'Brien said...

It's not my assumption, Kim. I was using an advanced technique called irony and quoting the Obama spin machine, but I'll be happy to hazard one guess about a would-be McCain White House: Missy Miss Palin would have quit by now because of all those meanies calling her names.

It's nice to see you used a ruler on your spiffy graph.

true terrorism cannot be eradicated, nor fought. true terrorism is the looney strapping dyn-O-mite (hi JJ Evans) to his bollix and walking onto a bus, or into a mall. true terrorism doesn't need to take out 3,000+ people in the twin towers, just one is enough. so this whole nonsense about how we're safer under this admin or the other is complete horseshit. Fear is paralyzing. instill that into the American people and we'll goddamn do just about anything anyone says. it's how the conservatives work. or really anyone from any party. it's all shite; we are certainly not any safer now than at any point in history from the koo-koo for cocoa puffs militant living out in a shack somewhere in the Montana woods and plotting to take out a few family members going to the mall to see Avatar. seriously America, wake the fuck up.

(S)wine said...

oh and could people stop saying there was no terrorist attack during the Bush admin? who the fuck was in the White House on September 11, 2001? factcheck before opening mouth please.

After a year of blaming the Obama Administration for failing to do the right thing when it comes to the economy, the GOP awoke this morning to some very disturbing news - 4th quarter GDP rose by an astounding 5.7%

The change from the first quarter of 2009, when GDP fell at an annual rate of 6.4 percent, is truly extraordinary; indeed, the three-quarter swing in growth rates was the largest since 1981.

Great news for the nation – bad news for a GOP who have proven time and again that best interests of the country come in a distant second to their personal and party ambitions and objectives.

Speaking today at the Republican Issues Conference, House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence informed his audience that the good economic news had absolutely nothing to do with the Obama Administration’s economic policy. Rather, it was was the result of “the inherent resilience of the American economy.”

For RJ:

Well, today I made some weisswurst, a sausage made from veal, fatback, spices, lemon zest, etc. Pretty damned good if you ask me! I also cut up 12 chickens, but that's not cooking, sorry.

I'm competing in a Chili contest on the 6th, sponsored by our school, and helping to raise money for the Special Olympics. See, we Pachyderms can be compassionate ... ;-) Don't know if I'll win, but it's for a great cause the late Eunice Shriver would support.

Oh, and BTW .. I deliberately decided to do a true Chili Con Carne - no veg other than onions, jalapenos, tomatoes and garlic. 10 pounds of brisket and 1 pound of ground chuck are going in, a carnivore's delight. Around here, Chili is kind of a ... uhh .. debatable thing. Most here don't know what real chili is (vegetarian chili? with tofu, seitan, and tempeh? give me a break!). Hopefully, I can fix that. And there will be no beans or anything else in it other than what I've described. I'll serve them on the side, along with sour cream, local cheddar, pickled jalapenos, red onions, scallions, etc. But I'll be damned if they'll be in the chili itself.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled conservative vs. liberal discussion ...

I am 33 years old and I find myself completely disilusioned by our system. Regardless of which party is in charge the other party is completely determined to do their best to keep the other party from making any significant changes that might make that party successful. The problem with our system boils down to the fact that each party wants to be the party to "fix things" and goes out of their way to keep the other party from actually fixing anything. In the end nothing gets done and we are sold down the drain by both parties. I am firmly convinced that there will never again be any significant improvement in our country. EVER. Simply put neither party can allow the other party to be the one to do it...so it will never get done. I Do believe we are seeing the final days of our great nation's prominence....and there is nothing we can do to stop the decay. The system, as it turns out, is flawed. Sadly. But then that is just one disilusioned man speaking for himself and his own opinions.

(S)wine said...

Darkwulfe, i hear and feel ya. there is no majority in this country for anything to get done, if you think about it. if 54% means a resounding majority, then i wanna go back to school and take tests. it's not how math works, but then again...what do Americans know about math, right?

all i have to say is thank fucking god that this country's dominance is coming to an end.

oh, and for the guy insinuating OBL and BO seem to be on the same wavelength concerning environmental issues: please open your partisan eyes and realize that bin Laden can say anything he wants in order to manipulate the likes of you or divide the likes of you. give me a break, i'd like to think most people here have a brain and can think critically. (it's a secret wish that, sadly, remains just that: a wish)

Erin O'Brien said...

Darkwulfe, I was stunned and impressed by your comment as well.

swine: i'm not insinuating anything. just stating the obvious that OBL and, people like you,and maybe BHO, actually want this country to fail. it doesn't take much critical thinking for me to have an opinion on that. and...there is a majority in the house and senate. i guess having a set of balls is also required to do something you believe in.

Bill said...

dardwulf, alex, erin: i'm afraid that you are all correct about the good ol usa being in decline. now we're all left with arguing about who's leading us there.

Erin O'Brien said...

I am withdrawing myself from this discussion Mr. Bill. Your presumptive nature precludes any meaningful discourse.

(S)wine said...

ok, stating the obvious is duly noted. i want this country to fail at this point only because there seems to be nothing good working to move it forward. we, the people, don't seem to learn any lessons from consumption, greed, and consumerism. if/when it fails, hopefully, something akin to the Phoenix will be reborn out of its ashes. new thinking, new minds. what we need is for the decrepit and old and conservative to die. i truly and wholeheartedly believe that and i know there are millions who disagree...in fact loathe my kind of thinking. and so it goes.

(S)wine said...

p.s. yes, there is a majority in the house and senate...a majority of career politicians, all parasites on either side, whose aim is to hold on to their jobs, not work for us. this is nothing new, though. i need someone to explain to my why we give Congress such low approval rates, yet we keep re-electing the same swine to it. seriously, someone please explain that.

This is what the right does. They present their facts (lies) with no support and no historical backing. When you question their facts (lies) they will either dismiss you outright or just attack.

This past week the Repub block of the congress voted against "Pay as you go", even though this is a Conservative ideal. It boils down to one problem. To paraphrase the movie "Blazing Saddles": "The President is a NI____!"
