For embellishment. I caught Carville and Cheney on LKL last night. Carville nailed it :
CARVILLE: You’re right. I’ve been accused of hurling facts around.

Let me hurl a fact around. These people are poor — these poor pathetic people are believing stuff, just like — just like Ms. Cheney tonight. She refuses to say this is ludicrous because she actually wants to encourage these people to believe this. It’s just a simple thing. This is a nutty thing. There’s nothing to this. I disagree with this president’s policies.

They can’t say that. They can’t say that because…

CHENEY: James, I am…

CARVILLE: …they’re scared they’ll lose the…

CHENEY: …I — James, sorry…

CARVILLE: …this sort of nut wing of their party.

Joan Walsh saw this last night: Liz Cheney, the most famous former principal deputy assistant secretary of state for near eastern affairs in American history, appeared on Larry King’s CNN show and fielded a question about the Obama birth certificate conspiracies.

Her first response, after being shown a video of a birther screaming at Rep. Mike Castle (R-Del.), and after James Carville suggested it was a problem for Republicans: “I think that the Democrats have got more crazies than the Republicans do.” Then she excused the birth conspiracy theories by bashing the president. The whole transcript is worth reading, as Carville and King give Cheney multiple attempts to crawl back out of the fever swamp.

I agree there is nothing to this. The President could make it all go away in an instant if he released his actual birth certificate and records. His refusal fuels the conspiracy theories.

Spent a half hour trying to digest what I have watched and read ... all I can say is ... WHITE PEOPLE! Geez!!

He HAS released those records. The State of Hawaii has made the records public. Hawaii has two major newspapers, the Honolulu Advertiser and the Star Bulletin.
BOTH newspapers include birth announcements, and BOTH newspapers record the August 4th, 1961 birth of Barack Obama.

Strategically it's probably wise to let these nuts continue. They become the face of the GOP.

no he has not RJ, they issuied a certificate of live birth (and there is question of its authenticity especially since it was posted on KOS) The certificate of live birth is not even a legal dicument to prove identity in Hawaii.

Anyone can list anything in a birth anouncement in the paper.

A certified copy of the BIRTH Certificate would make tis go away. After all I needed one to get a passpoert and drivers license.

Again I think it is so much about nothing, but no less ridiculous than the liberals bleating over GW Bush's national guard records, eh what?

I would say it's sad that these people are hellbent on turning the US into a single-party nation, just not the party they intended.

But then you know someone else will come along and fill the void.

Hopefully someone reasonable who doesn't watch Fox News.

Don't underestimate the hysteria of these fools; this morning I read a quote from a Federal agent who said he has not seen this level of rhetoric since the emerging days of the militias in the 90s.

The Truth:

In 1961 2 people, a caucasion woman born in Kansas, USA and an african born man, smuggled a new born baby into Hawaii, USA. They persuaded the 2 primary newspapers in Honolulu to print birth announcements in August 1961 in what would be the beginning of a conspiracy to deceive thousands of personal acquaintances and millions of unsuspecting observers into believing this child was an American citizen.
Exactly 47 years 3 months later, as planned, Barack Hussein Obama was elected President of The United States of America.
A talking serpent smiled.

I'm not a big James Carville fan, but I agree with him 100% this time. Those on the Right could just say they disagree with the President, as is their right, but, no, they have to attack his very citizenship (incidentally, in the unlikely event they remove him from office, there is still Joe Biden to contend with) I also like what Carville said about the Right preying on fears of poor whites. I've made that point before in this comment section.

Incidentally, Chris Matthews was waving around Obama's birth certificate last night on TV.

In the interest of equal time:

http://passportsusa.com/wp-content/gallery/passportusa/edith_front.jpg

Shows a "real" Hawaiian Birth Certificate that does not match the document produced by Obama.

Of interest though, at the bottom of the Obama document is this statement:
"This copy serves as prima facie evidence of the fact of birth in any court proceeding"

I am amazed daily at the absolute stupidity that a great deal of the American people demonstrate.
These people vote, serve on juries, hold positions of authority, it's terrifying!

Sean Craven said...

Y'know, this really strikes me as the most delusional cover for racism that I've seen in a while. I'd actually respect these people more if they came right out and said, "I really feel uncomfortable with the fact that our President has a visible negro heritage," than this nonsense.

Of course, that 'more' doesn't translate to 'a significant quantity.'

Obama's policies around Abu Ghraib have stripped all of my enthusiasm for the man. But this kind of nonsense is really unforgivable.

Hoosierboy,

Why would anyone other than Obama's family go to the trouble of placing a birth announcement in two Honolulu newspapers in 1961?

Furthermore, even if Obama stooped to the level of these loons and actually presented his birth certificate for public perusal, the issue would not go away The usual loons/con artists would still find something wrong with it and continue to plea for money on their websites, as the ringleaders of this scam have been doing for the past year.

The main point is that there is no credible evidence that Obama was born anywhere but Hawaii. Any claims that he was born in Kenya have been shown to be fabricated.

Hey Sean,

In the interest of full disclosure and lest regular readers of this here blog think I'm enraptured by BHO. I'm pissed about the handling of the torture issue too. To a lesser extent lack of action on
civil rights, i.e. same sex marriage and the apparent loss of focus on closing Corporate Tax loopholes (TARP money being moved offshore)which would go a long way toward funding of national healthcare, which should, in my learned opinion be a single payor system a la National Medicare. But, I digress.

I also wish BHO was pushing much harder left. Remember how the elephants lined up so nicely behind Dubya?

yeah, yeah.

Families do not post birth annuncements in Hawaii's newspapers...The State Health Department does. The document that is being shown is the only one any person born in Hawaii gets if they ask for their birth certificate. The "long version" is held in state records and is not shown publicly.

This is all BULLSHITE!!!!

Take the time and watch Chris Matthews shred G. Gordon Liddy on this issue. IT is Great!!!!
