Bobby Conn revisited

I have posted this YouTube before, but since it just gets better and better and better with every viewing, here it is again:

I can't decide what I love more, the wardrobe selections for the fantastic dancers, the announcer, the dancing adults (particularly the man holding the toddler), the set, Conn's fabulous make-up or the intensity of Conn's expressions throughout. The interview at the end is so so so worth the wait. I am completely ON after seeing this intrepid performance again.

This, people, is why we have the Internet.

The dancing is very...free.

I bought this song from iTunes after you first brought this to our attention. Thanks for bringing it back again. It really is priceless.

By the way, EOB, have you ever listened to the "mature" audiences version of this song? The lyrics in the chorus are considerably more provocative. Instead of saying:

"You're never gonna get ahead, no no no, SAYING YES to the man,"

he sings:

"You're never gonna get ahead, no no no, GIVING HEAD to the man."

I God Woodrow.

I am not proud to admit it, but yes I am familiar with the adult version of the song.

Do people still refer to fellatio as "head" or is that passé?

that honestly scared me. i thought he was gonna bust something. like, my eardrums, maybe.

and yes, giving head is still common terminology.

also, the lady in the blue tube top dress and the fugly boots? needs to learn that she CAN'T DANCE. actually, maybe she should get her head checked if she thought that that song and that dancing went together in any way whatsoever...lol.

Very unique and different in a good way.

Thanks for providing me with a welcomed and needed moment of absurdity.

Had never know such a cat existed.

I never knew Mick Jagger had a son!

Oh, and the woman introducing him? Hawt.

I think "fellatio" is more Shakespearean sounding than "head."

The only thing that came to my mind watching this was "wow, this guy sucks."

He was right about one thing, though ... "the man is out there, and he wants to take things from us." Funny, this guy is from Chicago, right? Say, Obama is from Chicago too, huh? Coincidence? I think not. Hmmm ... taking things .. taxes to pay for any number of dubious programs .... hmmmm....

Yeah, I remember this clip from the original post and he's definitely an original. And no fake-ass lip-syncing as evidenced by his visible shortness of breath following. Props to him.

(And as an aside about this "head" thing: I will more give you a piece of my mind. But you knew that.)

@doug
Ya just never know~!

@Shaina
You need to learn to pay less attention.

@ Al-TRAG
And sometimes - maybe just this once - The Man could also stand to bite his tongue.
Just sayin'.

Amy,

If the "man" in question is Obama, I doubt he will hold his tongue. As long as he has a teleprompter, anyway ... ;-)

I just watched this, and I would like to thank Black people everywhere for teaching my people to dance. Without you, this video clearly shows the horror of what could have been. Even the little Black girl is off kilter, just trying to follow this Caucasian coniption fit.

I'm going to watch some James Brown and Cab Calloway videos now.

The horror.
