The question I've had for years and have never heard adequately answered is this:
Where was the alarm in the Israeli's? While in many ways they depend on us for their existence they have repeatedly been proactive in their own defense. Israeli intelligence is all over threats in their region. THEY HAVE NUCLEAR WEAPONS! I assure you, if they thought Saddam (or now Iran) were an imminent threat they wouldn't wait on a U.N. resolution to act. (BTW, I believe there is a similar argument to make about North Korea. China wants a nuclear holocaust in their region about like I want a root canal. I think if NK really had a credible nuclear threat the chinese would squish it like a bug. But sure, if the US wants to get its panties in a wad, they don't mind watching the show.)Comments?
The Israel spin is a pretty logical one. Now, few if any of us will ever know what goes on over there and whether or not the Israelis were active in stopping anything. That said, your point is a good one. The talk of Israel and a neighbor with WMDs has been conspicuously absent. Few people realize what we had to do to keep them from lighting up Iraq during GW1 when the Scuds started falling.
It seems like a long time ago but the U.S. actually had a little credibility when Bush 1 was chasing Saddam out of Kuwait and the Scuds were falling. They were willing to exercise restraint.(And remember all the smoke they blew up our asses about the Patriot Missle Defense System, they never intercepted a single missle.)
If Iran raises a serious threat today, they're toast.
"The results of these studies are disturbing. They suggest that the Patriot's intercept rate during the Gulf War was very low. The evidence from these preliminary studies indicates that Patriot's intercept rate could be much lower than ten percent, possibly even zero." (Statement of Theodore A. Postol before the U.S. House Of Representatives Committee on Government Operations, April 7, 1992)

Why are you up so daggum early on a Saturday and posting? I haven't even watched "Bill Maher" yet.
That damn Clinton and Albright lied to us...

I like your thinking RJ. I agree that the Chinese will march into North Korea before an American boot ever hit the ground.

You are full of it. The Patriot Missile System did intercept missles. I was there, so talk some more mindless dripple.

James Old Guy,
Refer me to the documentation re: Patriot Missles please. Until then I will dripple indiscriminately.
