Mr. Powell, that was simply brilliant.

Wow. thanks for putting this on your blog or I never would have seen it. Wish I could get a transcript of it. If there was ever a leader do listen to and respect it's Powell - i always wished he would run- but certainly don't blame him for not wanting the job.

Wow, I think Powell hit it right on the mark with regards to what the majority of the center-right country (i.e., NOT the Far Right) thinks & feels (raising my hand). The role of the president is to lead & inspire, shape the national mood, and garner respect on the international front. Regardless of what you think about their ideologies, policies, or personal flaws, both Reagan & Clinton understood that role & did it. In this race, regardless of which man gets in the Oval Office, let's hope they understand it.

yes it was nice to listen to some intelligent chatter this morning on Meet the Press after surfing numerous times past McCain's never-ending infomercial on Fox. and for some weird reason it was 'animal day' on CBS Sunday Morning. i wish i had multiple screens to play all shows 3 simultaneously.

You're right, this is just brilliant. Powell gave voice to everything I've been thinking over the past several weeks and months. He nailed it. (Hell, even the PD this morning endorsed Obama.)

A voice of reason. Refreshing.

But boy, did you see how peeved Brokaw was? He could hardly contain his disdain of Obama in the face of Powell's endorsement.

Brokaw has become small-potatoes. Actually, he always was bringing up the rear, behind Peter Jennings' worldliness and Dan Rather's hard-core reporting. Brokaw will forever be the OTHER small-town boy from Nebraska (remember Carson?) who pandered and kissed much ass of his father's generation. I recall his position on The Today Show many decades ago was fluff...and he never went beyond that in his career, in my opinion. I am sad to see he never truly retired. All the bad ones stay with us, FOREVER.

Really seemed to be the voice of a statesman. I was struck by the coherence of his statement. It was almost like he said everything he wanted to say without taking a breath, never repeated himself. Obviously had given it a lot of thought.
I will be most interested in the christian response to the little muslim boy president idea.

I have to say that listening to Brokaw always cracks me up. He always sounds drunk.

As for Powell, he is so bullet-proof, so articulate, so intelligent, that I am completely awed.

I spend untold hours penning my own endorsement, revising, editing and so on. That Powell got in front of a live camera and spoke so eloquently just blows me away.

He is a statesman and a spendid orator. He would have made a very fine president indeed.

I was pleased with what he said, too.

I've been dismayed, ever since, to hear talking heads say that Powell's choice was strictly motivated by skin color. Et tu, George Will?

Hah!

Bush et al tarnished Powell by making him go to the UN and mouth things that he knew goddam well were lies.

Looks to me that the Republicans are getting their payback. This isn't Powell swinging at McCain, it's Powell hammering the Rovian squalor machine. It's Powell kicking Rumsfeld and Cheney in the ballsack.

Could we possibly trade an endorcement for an advisor job in the new white house? Naa never happen. Bad timing I guess.

Conjecture, conjecture, conjecture, Mr. Smith ... really baby, can't you do any better than that?

As Bill Maher pointed out, when you can speak for 7 something minutes without any notes you must have really thought this out and believe what you say.
