It only takes two little words to expose who you really are

"That one."

The footnote to a political career. Sad.

So happy people caught that. It's making waves this morning all throughout the online community. I suppose the only thing worse would've been for McCain to utter: "you people."
Ouch.
This is the end for him. Good riddance. I'm tired of having mean white guys run our country.

I agree Trée, it was sad.

Sad, spectacular, ironic--an honest-to-God American tragedy.

God strike me dead for saying it, but that man owes Sarah Palin an apology.

He is truly a total tool. I think that pretty much sums it up.

Swine--people caught it because it was so damn unscripted, so indicative. It was like a split-second glimpse of the seething anger inside of him.

And even though it was so tiny, it was absolutely indicative. It was no slip, no little mistake. The American people are perceptive. Even the ones that back McCain are privately shaking their heads today.

God what a funny link, Wil. Welcome!

Yes, that's my shameless self promotional thing, I attach it to all of my comments. I've been here before back a year or more ago. I've had you on my YouTube since then and I left you a couple of comments on there in the last couple of days so I figured I'd come back over here and see what was going on.

McCain is swirling the drain.

As my homie Garrison Keillor so aptly stated: "Anybody who got whacked and still thinks McCain-Palin is going to lead us out of the swamp and not into a war with Iran is beyond persuasion in the English language. They'll need to lose their homes and be out on the street in a cold hard rain before they connect the dots."

And by 'whacked' he means by the economy, not what I was thinking.
Took me a while to figure that out.

It was a revealing moment similar to in Bush v. Gore when Gore walked over and looked like he was going to punch Bush for a second there (in my opinion.)

I think it reveals geezerdom rather than racism. It reminded me of when I was a little kid and my mom would say, "You did such a bad thing I can't even say your name right now..."

Speaking of my mom, she would also say, "Zen Constantinople Wizard, you come in here right now!"

"Who voted for the bill? Barack Hussein Obama," would have been golden.

Further, if this guy can't take a punch from a 72-year-old geezer, he does not deserve to be Commander in Chief of the US military. We keep forgetting that because of the impressiveness of his resume and the way the Obama Transparency Act has changed our life on a minute-by-minute basis.

John McCain is under the control of Sarah Palin. She is a space alien intent on turning us all into pod people.

I'm fairly certain Obama took the punch just fine...It's the public that's noticing the venom behind the phrase is all.

I watched the C-SPAN feed of the debate last night, which included things happening behind the scenes before and after, since I can't stand pundits frothing at the mouth. I prefer my information unfiltered.

Anyway, after the debate ended and the candidates were milling about, McCain stayed only for a few minutes and then ducked out. Obama stayed a full 10 minutes after, taking pictures, signing autographs (the future First Lady did as well), and chatting with them as well. That's geniality we need more than a doddering, bitter old man.

I'm sorry. I said that wrong. I meant "that one."

Hey Fog: You and Keillor are dead on.

Zen: I don't think Obama was put-off, but he knew McCain was making a subtle, if significant, mistake. Love the Constantinople, baby.

RJ: PODS! eek!

Beign: Agreed.

Rory: Every point was against McCain last night. He got so much wrong. I agree about the filter. I can't stand those dial-meters or whatever on the bottom of the screen during the debate. So distracting.

It was like the War Room here last night. C-SPAN for the televised debate, the Savvy/Idealist guys for the live blogging, and a whole shitload of gin and red wine. Erin, you ducked outta there quite stealthily.

"Dear Senator McCain,

I would like to point your attention toward your calling Senator Obama "that one."

Remember during former Senator George Allen's campaign when he called an Indian-American filming his event, "macaca"?

Enjoy your retirement, Senator McCain, in however many houses you have these days."

Thanks Palin shill. That was enlightening.

Swine: I can't remember what distracted me, but I got sucked back to the boob tube screen. I would have liked to chat with more intent ... maybe next time.

Rory: Bet he'd sniff over my humble 1967 split level. hmph.

ANONYMOUS COMMENTER:

Yes I deleted your comment. I will not tolerate racial slurs on these pages, even if they're under the "umbrella" of academic linguistic commentary--and yours was so barely disguised as such that I'm being (ahem) liberal giving you that much.

This is the second time I have deleted a comment like yours in three years wherein I've posted over 800 entries.
