Showtime!

I own the following movies on DVD:

Duel

Cool Hand Luke

Deliverance

The Roger Corman Collection, which includes The Man with the X-Ray Eyes*

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Jaws

Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Vampire Circus*

I had a copy of Liquid Love: The G-Spot Explosion, but I raffled it off.

On VHS:

From Beyond*

The Blair Witch Project

Leaving Las Vegas

The Thing with Two Heads

These titles came with the Goat:

Ben Hur

The Grapes of Wrath

West Side Story

*Read my review of this film here.

With the exception of the Goat titles, LLV (the same copy that was sent to Academy members in 1995, marked only with the name of movie and the words "For Your Consideration," the Movie People graciously sent this to me after I requested it), the G-Spot title (review copy from film maker Godfrey Silas) and The Thing with Two Heads (gift from my mommy), I purchased all these movies. I don't purchase many movies as it irritates the Goat (who will deny that charge as soon as he reads this). I also recorded several hours of "Liquid Television," which was an MTV thing back in the 90s. Aeon Flux debuted on it along with a bunch of other weird shit. That tape is laying around here somewhere.

I am omitting several titles associated with Baby Goat (also known as Lil' OB). Other than those, this list includes all the movies we own.

Yesterday, I was alone most of the day. I rented Saturday Night Fever for $2.14 and watched it while taking notes in the afternoon. I won't purchase this film, but I thought it was worthy of my time. I might purchase the song "Boogie Shoes" by KC and the Sunshine Band, but I'm not sure yet.

That is all.

I am not at home, and so can't look up and to my right to see what the hell we have. We have some Alfred Hitchcock. Eyes Wide Shut. Horatio Hornblower. Fawlty Towers. Monty Python. Romeo and Juliet. Sabrina. Roman Holiday. A collection of 5 film noir which are great. The Concrete Jungle.

Oh, and Showgirls.

I don't want to count. But credit to you for only owning the two best early Spielbergs.

I love Duel and Jaws, but here is an explanation about what appeals to me in Close Encounters.

Goofy Golf or Pinocchio? Close Encounters is still one of my all time favorites.

(Hey Erin... howya doin'?)

There is a prevalent "When You Wish Upon a Star" theme in "Close Encounters," even the music at the end when Roy Neary goes into the mothership.

I own a few movies. Some have sentimental value, others not. And here they are ...

12 O'Clock High: Starring Gregory Peck. My father, a World War II Navy veteran, was a frustrated pilot. He loved airplanes, and everything to do with flying. He also loved the military, and I think he regretted getting out of the Navy after the war. Anyway, I used to watch war movies with him, and this was his favorite.

Schindler's List: One of my favorites. Extremely well acted, frightening, and accurate all at the same time. A better portrait of the banality of evil, as Hannah Arendt once said, does not exist. And Ralph Fiennes was simply magnficent as the completly twisted, amoral, and evil Amon Goeth. Liam Neeson wasn't too bad either, and Ben Kingsley was superb.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail: "I fart in your general direction." Need I say more?

Supersize Me: Of course, no one's going to eat three meals a day a McDonald's, but this is an interesting film.

Midway: A cheesy WWII epic whose historical accuracy leaves a lot to be desired, but it's the only movie my Dad ever took me to. In Surround Sound, no less (whatever that was in the 70's).

Blazing Saddles, Spaceballs, History of the World, Part I: Mel Brooks. 'nuff said.

This is Spinal Tap: I'm a bass player. The scene with Harry Shearer trying to get through airport security with a foil-wrapped cucumber in his spandex is worth the price of admission alone.

Good Eats (from the Food Network): Alton Brown is one of my culinary heroes - what can I say?

633 Squadron: Another cheesy WWII movie, starring Cliff Robertson. I liked it for the airplanes. The romantic subplot sucked.

Sink the Bismark: Another fave my Dad and I watched. Fairly accurate as well.

A Bridge Too Far: Inaccurate, but the scene of the paratroopers jumping is spot on. I've jumped from a C-47 (actually, a DC-3, but he military version was a C-47), and trust me, that's what it's like.

Saving Private Ryan: Folks, this is what war's like, except it's worse. You can't smell or feel things at a movie.

Men In Black: My former Brother In Law, Tim Blaney, is the voice of Frank the Pug.

Das Boot: Extremely accurate portrayal of the German Submarine Service in WWII. I like it simply because it's in German, and it helps me get better at the language.

Kentucky Fried Movie - A Memphis Avenue Drive In staple if there ever was one.

The Groove Tube - Ditto.

Team America, World Police - the footage of "puppet sex" is priceless. That and the puppet throwing up outside the bar.

Flesh Gordon - a campy and somewhat pornographic send up of the original 1930s serial starring Buster Crabbe. My friend Pete gave it to me - the pre-digital age animation a la Jason and the Argonauts is intriguing.

The Kids Are Alright - What can I say? John Entwistle, one of my bass heroes, is prominently feature.

So there.

From Beyond RAWKS. Barbara Crampton RAWKS, especially in Reanimator when she's strapped to an autopsy table. Man, now I want to watch From Beyond again!

Favorite DVD in my collection would have to be Army of Darkness. Gimme some sugar, baby.
