Rainy Day Woman, vol 28

In my column this week, I reveal the true meaning behind the phrase "play it again, Sam."

If you have something to say about it, please email the Free Times. Be sure to include your full name and city. Frank Lewis is the editor.

I have a nine year old daughter. Right there with ya. "The Best of Both Worlds." But really wanted to say in the short time I've been reading your blog it has enriched my life. For that I am grateful. Happy Thanksgiving!

"Video Killed the Radio Star" here. Or Art Of Noise's "Close to the Edit". That's when headphones become a very attractive birthday gift...

Great column this week Erin. Love ya. By the way, I'm playing your recent CD mix in my car over and over and over...

Ah...my son happens to loathe HIgh School Musical, but then, he is a Weird Al fan ("White and Nerdy" being the pervasive refrain on any given day)...thank goodness iPods have ear buds. 'Nuff said!

Has anybody ever mentioned that in that Rainy Day Woman picture (but nowhere else) you look just like punk-rock poetess Patti Smith?

I think your wee one is ready for Pink Floyd.

If it makes you feel any better, my poor mother was forced to listen to Alanis Morrisette's Jagged Little Pill about 6,098 times when I was 12.

And this should really make you feel better...now I listen to all of the stuff my mom introduced me to when I was a kid.

I don't think she was expecting the Stray Cats tattoo, but she forgot I'm an extremist.

On the way back on a car trip, my daughter goddam near wore out the ||< key on my iPod. She has good taste, though: by my estimation she listened to "Star of the County Down" by Van Morrisson and The Chieftains 29 straight times.

Here's something to put you off 'My Sharona' for good: that song is on Bush's iPod. That's right, the president's musical tastes are as finely honed as those of a preschooler.

http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Music/04/12/bush.ipod/

"The music tastes of U.S. President George W. Bush have come under scrutiny after an aide revealed the playlist of his new iPod player." SNIP "Not every track is on-message." The playlist -- regarded by many as a mirror to the soul -- includes musicians who campaigned against Bush, such as John Fogerty. Also on the iPod is the 1979 song "My Sharona" by the Knack, about a man pursuing a much younger woman."

I'm guessing that your daughter isn't ready for "would she go down on you in a theater"--and you're not ready to think about that being a song about Joey from Full House.

Still, make certain that, as soon as possible, she hears the DKs "Pull My Strings" (clean lyric: "Drool, drool, drool, drool, drool, drool…my payola!") as soon as you're able.
